I do not think this recall is related to you problem, but I thought I would post it any way fyi. some other sport bikes had a recall related to tps, but not yours- even though your symptoms are simular. I would recommend getting in touch with your dealer about this recall any way. your problems would be easier to diagnose with more info like what does the bike have done to it, miles etc.

maybe surging, a custom map normally takes care of this, mine did it after i put the race baffles on my R1, and some other mods, it took care of it once i had it mapped :thumbup

 

it def is surging up and down at idle but the bike is perfect when im on the throttle. is there anyway to fix it with out remapping ?(power commander 3 isnt in the budget right now)

 

the reason I asked what you had done to the bike is because I have found this issue to be par for the course when adding aftermarket exhaust. my bike does it with a power commander. and I think I can zero it out but I'm to lazy. I think the power commander on your bike allows more idle adjustment than on my R1 but without spending money it may be very tough to get a smooth idle on your bike.

 

to do the smog plate block offs will usually take care of this also.

 

thanks for all the help everyone!!!!!!!!!! i called a dealer today and he said that a lot of r6's have this idle issue. It's an overload to the ecu which causes the surge in idle. As long as there are no other power issues through out the mid and high end there is no reason to worry. adding an aftermarket exhaust is a definite cause. hope this helps anyone else with this concern. Also, thank you very much (macattack) for the recall notice i encourage everyone to run their vin number with a dealer to see if their bike needs to be serviced.

 

ok like i said if you buy the block off plates at 40 bucks it will stop the surging. teh surgeis where it is pumping fresh air into the cylinder from the lack of back pressure and emission bs. it is two small plates very simple fix.

i put them on my R1 but it didnt stop the surging... :sing

jus saying its not always the fix... :fact
but for sure try the blockoffs if it doesnt work just dont let it idle ride the damn thing!! :lol :crash

btw the mods that i had when it was surging were the fac pro stacks, blockoffs gutted cat, and the baffles, with a kn filter, and it was bouncing from 11 to 15 or 1600 rpms at idle... got it tuned and it fixed it , :dunno every bike is different though hopefully it works.
