Tire Wheel Land vehicle Plant Vehicle

Every vehicle owner knows that a check engine light is NOT the worst thing that can happen. Can you turn on a dime? Stop when you need to? Equipment and tools can break. Parts that should fit don't fit. The struggle is real. All we can do is roll with the punches. Well, that, and maybe laugh a bit at our misfortune.

What is your most memorable vehicle-related fail?

Not a major fail but several times I've forgotten to put oil drain plug back in and poured several quarts of new oil all over the ground. Anyone else ever done this?
One car accident that I was responsible for my fault and that is memorable

It was past midnight. I was driving from my office to home on the streets of New York. My fault was that I had drank. What happened next was that I was caught by the police and had to pay a penalty.
Have the police ever caught you for drink and drive?

Was extremely lucky over the years.
Arrogance at it's best.

I will never proclaim to be a mechanic.... ever. But I do completely understand the system and can teach it.
But in my arrogance, I think I might have been 15? 16? in Small Engine class, rebuilt a motor. Totally forgot to put oil in and started it.

You didn't want to get all the new parts dirty, right. How long did it rum?

Everything runs for ever on Rum LOL :)

So, Once I started it. I rev'd it several times and shut it off. My intent was "See I can do it". Then at shutoff it really really shutoff. Hard stop. The it dawned on me, "I never put in the oil".

Disassembled it. Emery the spots. Ran hone machine. Tested clearance on the rings, crank, connecting rod. Got off easy!!! All was in the clearance, safe.
