Kawasaki Announces Signing of Chaz Davies to Attack Kawasaki Squad

IRVINE, Calif. (November 14, 2007) – Kawasaki announced today that Chaz Davies will join Daytona 200 winner Steve Rapp on the Attack Kawasaki team for the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship Series. Both riders will compete in the AMA Supersport and AMA Formula Xtreme classes aboard the Kawasaki ZX™-6R.

After competing in the Grand Prix circuit for five years, Davies turned his focus to the AMA Superbike Championship Series in 2007. He spent most of his inaugural year in the U.S. getting familiar with new competition and the layouts of the tracks. He earned sixth-place overall in the AMA Formula Xtreme class with podium finishes at Miller Motorsports Park and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“Last season, getting on the podium twice was a real highlight for me,” said Davies. “I’m really excited to join the team. I know it’s a step in the right direction and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Davies’ began racing at eight years old, competing in the British Mini Moto Championship. In 2002, he became the youngest rider to compete in a full season of Grand Prix motorcycle racing when competing in the 125cc GP World Championship. He spent his final years in the circuit riding in the 250cc class.

“Chaz is one of the brightest and youngest up and coming stars on the circuit,” said Road Race Team Manager Mike Preston. ”He has a lot of experience in GP’s. He showed last year that he could be consistently up there, even on tracks that he had never ridden before. We’re really looking forward to putting him on a good winning bike.”

Attack Kawasaki teammate Steve Rapp will return for his second year aboard the Kawasaki ZX™-6R motorcycle. In his first year with Kawasaki, Rapp won the prestigious Daytona 200 and finished runner up in the AMA Formula Xtreme class with five podiums finishes. He also found success in the AMA Supersport class with podiums at Barber Motorsports Park and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, finishing the season in fourth overall.
