Thomas Heller Do the engines look similar?
If you have both bikes, just take measurements of the various distances between the mounting bolts. Or go to a website that has o.e.m. parts diagrams and see which parts interchange like engine covers, oil pans/gaskets etc.

Will a FZR600 engine bolt on to a YZF600R? (1998)

I have a somewhat ugly 1998 YZF600R with a salvage title that I love to ride. Only issue is the second gear is all but gone, as is common with these bikes. I also have a clean-titled 1998 FZR600 that isnít pretty and has had a few parts taken off of it including the peanut covers and fairings.

Iím hoping to find out if itís easy to pull the motor off of the FZR and put it into the YZF so itíd be a fully functioning bike with all its gears. If itís easy enough to bolt on, I think it would be worth it. If it takes a lot of time, work, and most importantly, money, it might make more sense to cut my losses and sell both.

Havenít been able to find anyone who has put a FZR motor into a YZF600R, usually itís the other way around. Any ideas?
Iíve also heard some people make a 660 motor by slapping the top end of an FZR motor onto the bottom end of a YZF600R motor. Is that a relatively easy thing to do or does it incur a good bit of cost?

Thank you for any help!!
