oil temp light with cold motor?

Fellow riders, My 2001 big bear 400 has periodic problems starting by push button as the oil temp light pops on and cuts the connection. I hear a clicking sound at the battery, but no fire up? Any ideas would be much appreciated as it's sounds electrical, which is not my favorite fix! Solenoid? Thermostats? Thanks in advance
