Help with Speedometer cable install

The bottom piece that screws onto the wheel hub came loose when I was riding and the piece inside that turns fell out. I got a new speedometer cable from Yamaha and installed it and now the speed is off very off. It's reads slower than what I'm going and the needle will not move above 25-30 on the speedometer although I'm doing 50+. Any suggestions on what may be causing this?

Did the piece inside the front wheel part fell off? If so you will need a new speedometer thing at wheel hub. A cable only will not fix that. i have a 98 and i had to replace mine not too long ago. The shop tried telling me it was cable too but the cable was fine.

Maybe you haven't got the square drive part of the cable properly located. Try fitting it again, but pushing it in and turning it at the same time, you should feel it slip into the mating part
