2001 R1 Headlights/Gauges Help

My R1s headlights and dash are both not working. No low or high beams. The dash shows the neutral light, no other idiot lights, no tach, no speedo. The tach does not dance when I turn the bike on, but does when I turn it off. The turn signals work (they do not show on the dash) but they are dim and slow to blink.

This started last week. I dug around under the seat and basically by accident, everything started working again. I figured I had bumped a bad connection back to life and grinned. Short grin. At the end of the block, everything died again...and then popped back on staying that way until I got to work. After work was over, no nothing again.

I re-checked the fuses again, still good and started pulling relays and plugging them back in (just the ones under the seat). No change. Then, when I wasn't doing anything useful, everything came back on.

Anything come to mind that would explain this?

I would take all the connections apart and inspect them, if they look ok, then put some electrical grease on all of them and put them back together. Also check the ground wires to ensure there is no rust around them and that you have a good ground.

This will most likely fix your issue.

u should get a contact cleaning spray and clean all contacts with it.
specially check the big connector between the main and sub harness (aka headlight harness)

Okay, I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

I was hoping it would be something quick and easy like a relay.
