TTR 125 & 225 hard to start cold

My son just purchased a used 05 TTR125 & i just got a used 04 TTR225. His had hardly any ride time at all & my bike had a little ride time. The problem is they are both hard to start cold & take a while to warm up. Is that normal for these bikes, or do i need to dissassemble them & clean them up?

TT-R's are typically cold blooded and don't idle well. Best solution I found for my wife's TT-R125LE was to clean the carb and install a JD Jetting jet kit. Totally different bike now!

I have heard they are cold natured. The 125 seems to have a harder time starting cold than the 225, but the other day i tried to start the 225 & it would,nt hit a lick. I had to use a shot of starting fluid & it fired right up. I have better luck turning on the choke & no gas. It will start up & die. A few times of that & its good, but still needs about 2-3 minutes of warm up.I guess i will try cleaning & rejetting. Where did you get the jets & what size should i use for the 125 & what size for the 225?

I bought mine as a kit for each of bikes. Kit includes main jets and two needles for cold and hot eeather. Check with online vendors if they carry JD Jet kits. If not: http://www.jdjetting.com

It's about $75 per kit.
