Default 2003 Warrior 350 Issues

Hi everyone!

I am having some serious problems with my 2003 Yamaha Warrior 350. Last week I was riding it and it started to rev really high and I checked my gas and I was out. Thank goodness I was near my driveway and didn't have to push it very far. I filled it back up and decided I was going to eat before going back out. When I cam back out, I had gas all over my garage floor. I tapped the bottom of the carb with a screwdriver (thought the float was the culprit) and I got it to hold fuel in the tank, but when I tried to start it, it acted like it was getting no gas. I checked the sparkplug and it was dry. I put in a new sparkplug just to test it, same thing, no gas was getting to the plug. I contacted the local Yamaha dealer I bought the ATV from (new in 2003) and they helped me over the phone with trouble shooting. After a few tests, my fears were confirmed, it had something to do with the carb. He said it was probably the float and/or the needle inside. I just put the new float in back in January 2010, and it ran fine up till the gas blow out issue. So I took the plastic off, the gas tank and the carb. I took off the float and the needle and sprayed carb cleaner on the needle and inside the carb and gave it a really good cleaning. I put the ATV back together and got the bike started, but it is running very very rough. An example would be, if it was a four-cylinder motor, it feels as if it is running on just 1 cylinder. I tried adjusting the idle, but to no effect, when I engage the clutch, the bike feels as its struggling and stalls. I parked it and noticed some fluid dripping on my garage floor and I thought it was gas again, but upon closer inspection, I noticed the leak was from the seal under the airbox (looks like a teabag) and it was oil. I opened the airbox and I have a good decent amount of oil in it.

I have no idea what is going on, but the bike isn't running and now this oil issue. Anyone have an idea or clue what could be the problem.

Thanks!

the "teabag" looking think I think is the drain for the air box.

any chance you over oiled your airfilter after cleaning it?

if so you could be sucking the oil into the carb causing a bit of problems.

It's not likely the oil is crankcase oil but check the oil level of your crankcase just in case.

Edit: It looks like its possible the crankcase breather tube empties into the airbox which if true could cause the extra oil in the airbox possibly caused by putting to much oil in your atv.

Sounds as though you have some backfire. It would blow the oil off the filter into the airbox. This is a carb or timing issue. Clean the carb good, before you put it back you should flip the carb over and back to hear the float move freely if you do not, something else is wrong. Look at the needle and seat.

Timing, could be the correct term. When I said it felt like a four cylinder running only one, maybe timing was the word I was looking for. When I had the carb off, yeah I checked that float and needle multiple times just to make sure it was freely moving.

I will be honest, I haven't cleaned my air filter, because honestly, my older brother put that on for me when I wasn't state side. I never knew oil went on them. But he did that back in 2007 so why would the oil be going off the filter now?

Thanks again!

I changed the oil in the four wheeler. I just know about the oil plug that is on the right side of the motor below the exhaust and next to the front right fender (near brake petal). I looked and it is still leveled. I am at a loss. I am pretty handy and fix most of my stuff, but this is beyond me and it looks like a sealer will have to fix it.

I called a Yamaha dealer out here and he told me this:

When my gas blew out the carb all over my garage, he said gas more then likely got into the engine and has mixed with my oil. Which caused my oil level to rise. he said the Float Needle needs replaced. I just replaced the float back in January. He told me to buy a new needle, and change my oil again and it should run fine.

Make sense?
