Default yz125 shift lever/shift shaft, clutch cable QUESTION

I am getting ready to trade my 2002 XR100 for a 2001 YZ125, my XR is in good shape and running condition, the guy that has the YZ said the rear fender is messed up and the tank and side panels and plastics look prettty bad due to the previous owners bad paint job, he said he started to take some of the paint off, i really dont care about the physical apperence of the bike just how it runs, he said it starts right up in one or two kicks and idles fine, but it needs a shift lever and clutch cable to be able to ride it,(foot lever is missing and clutch cable is snapped or damaged) but after doing a little research i have heard yamaha YZ dirtbikes have problems with the shift shaft, i am not really knowledgable wen it comes to fixing dirtbikes, he said he can get all the parts i will need for $50, (shifter lever thingy to shift gears with ur foot, and the clutch cable), i was wondering if anyone thinks it could sound like the problem could be more than just the foot lever and the clutch cable? could you give me a hint becasue i dont wont to get cheated out of a dirtbike? and say something did end up being wrong with the shift shaft, is it an easy fix? i really want a 2stroke bike and dont mind getting ride of the XR but do u think thie YZ sounds like a simple low end cost fix? THANKS!!!
