You need to look at the service manual an start tracking down were things are going wrong. You can down load a PDF version here: http://www.fzrarchives.com/ Just scroll to the bottom of the page and follow the link. The main power runs directly into the starter solinoid (sp) and gets distributed from there. But the ignition switch, starter button, and relays could all be culprits here. Take a look at the manual for the section on Trouble shooting electrical / starting. Most of the things there can be look at without power but you will need a multi-meter. The bad part is that it could be really bad. The good part is that replacement parts are cheap but they will be used.

Yes, you need a multi meter and start tracing wires. There probably is a relay for the dash. Pull all covers and start looking.
