Before you do any stock trading, READ! Learn, Watch CNBC, Listen To Bloomberg Radio, Practice with no money first, and watch the trends and finally, make investments in things that you are familiar with. If you Work in Computers, watch the IT companies, if you are into agriculture, watch that market, etc. And take it slow. Dont jump into anything without researching it first. A lot of people open up E-Trade accounts and jump right in buying and selling. Most of them lose their shirts. Traders call this "Dumb Money" and they love it.

HTH.

NP man. Glad I could help a little. I am no guru mind you. I got burned years ago during that DOTBOMB era. :old Back then Etrade just started up, and they were charging 19.00 per trade. Thats 20 bucks you have to pay when you buy and 20 bucks you have to pay when you sell. Adds up to a lot of money if you are trying to be a day trader. Thats how I know about Dumb Money, so I got out of the Etrade thing. I am just now starting back into investing, but with a whole new attitude about it, Research first, invest later.
