Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the easiest way to test the CDI on my son's 2002 PW80. I am at my wits end with this thing. One minute it will fire great and then the next it won't. I have taken everything apart, including the crankcase cover off and cleaned/scrubbed the stator connections and still nothing. I believe I have narrowed it down to the coil pack, but not quite sure. I think I have voltage coming out of the CDI, but not sure. I do know the two wires coming from the stator is putting something out, because my volt meter goes up when I kick the bike over. Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks.

Ok, I replaced the coil which I had suspected was bad and know I have a spark all the way to the plug cap. When I remove the plug cap, I can see a nice spark coming out of the plug wire. When I put the cap back on, I get a reading from the volt meter but not the plug. Bought a new plug and still nothing. Any suggestions at this point? Need help bad. Tight budget as everyone and can't afford to put it in the shop for them to troubleshoot.

Did you replace the plug lead (wire)? You say "When I remove the plug cap, I can see a nice spark coming out of the plug wire".
Are you pulling the plug lead and boot completely off of the plug, and still getting a spark inside the boot? If so, your plug lead is probably shorting out and finding an easy route back to ground. If you're getting a spark between the plug boot and the plug, that would be normal.

Have you tried pulling/testing the plug for spark against a good ground on the engine?
