: UIM F1 Boat Racing, anyone?
valerossi 11-22-2007, 10:40 AM No not those long speed boats, I'm talking about F1 boats... these things impress me as much F1 cars, especially how sharp they can turn on water... :oh
FYI, a F1 car can go 0-100 mph in about 3.1 sec these days, these F1 boats can go 0-100 mph in 3.7 sec, on water! :bow
See the -0:30 mark of the first vid, then you will see what I mean by sharp cornering... :bow

:cool
I prefer the offshore race boats, but the F1 boats are also :cool

But offshore boats are only fast on straight line, can't turn like a F1 boat... :mock :mrgreen
Offshore boats are more like drag race... :dunno
tilbury007 11-22-2007, 10:51 AM did you video your own tv in the 1st one val:lol

No, I found it on YouTube... :kicknuts :lol

Nothing turn like an F1 boat, that is true.
I like offshore boats for their shear size and power :cool
Junior 11-22-2007, 01:34 PM while we're on the topic of size and power, anyone watch top fuellers?

Another straight-liner? :poke :mock
Junior 11-22-2007, 01:39 PM yessir, 0-60 3 times as fast as your F1 car :) infact they're over 200mph before your F1 car hits 60

how the hell can the human body sustain those types of g's....damn. wonder if they've ever had anyone pass out making a snap turn.
Bogie 11-23-2007, 04:14 AM That would be brutal fast!! :rock
Junior 11-23-2007, 09:18 AM how the hell can the human body sustain those types of g's....damn. wonder if they've ever had anyone pass out making a snap turn.
actually I"m talking dragsters, so no snap turns necessary.
Part the blows me away about top fuellers is that most drivers are in their 40's-50's.
All about knowing how to set-up a car with no telemetry, which isn't something that you learn quickly.
valerossi 11-23-2007, 09:32 AM actually I"m talking dragsters, so no snap turns necessary.
I think Mark is talking about the G-force from acceleration, jetfighter pilots wear some type of G-suit for that... :dunno
valerossi 11-23-2007, 11:13 AM Just checked some g-force numbers...
Formula One drivers usually experience 5 g while braking, 2 g while accelerating, and 4 to 6 g while cornering. Every Formula One car has an ADR (Accident Data Recovery) device installed, which records speed and g-force. According to the FIA Robert Kubica of BMW Sauber experienced 75 g during his 2007 Montreal GP crash.
Everyday g-forces
* 3.5 g during a cough.
* 2.9 g during a sneeze.
Strongest g-forces survived by humans
Voluntarily: Colonel John Stapp in 1954 sustained 46.2 g [1] in a rocket sled, while conducting research on the effects of human deceleration. See Martin Voshell (2004), 'High Acceleration and the Human Body'.
Involuntarily: Formula One racing car driver David Purley survived an estimated 179.8 g in 1977 when he decelerated from 173 km/h (108 mph) to 0 in a distance of 66 cm (26 inches) after his throttle got stuck wide open and he hit a wall.[2]
Indy Car, Kenny Bräck crashed on lap 188 of the 2003 race at Texas Motor Speedway. Bräck and Tomas Scheckter touched wheels, sending Bräck into the air at 200+ mph, hitting a steel support beam for the catch fencing. According to Bräcks' site his car recorded 214 g.

actually, wasn't this thread about BOATS? :mrgreen
ffwf mentioned their incredible ability to turn. at those speeds, making a snap turn one way or the other could cause a blackout. they probably don't sustain the turn long enough for that to happen, though.
Junior 11-23-2007, 12:45 PM The difference between Cnl Stapp's and the others, is that his actually lasted for more than a split second. iirc he burst the capilleries in his eyes and they took several weeks to heal.
valerossi 11-23-2007, 08:48 PM actually, wasn't this thread about BOATS? :mrgreen
Yes, but g-force is related... :mock
