Bridgestone will supply slick tyres at the Jerez test in December.

Bridgestone has confirmed that it will provide slick tyres at the Jerez test in Spain next month.

The FIA Formula 1 World Championship switched to grooved tyres in 1998 as part of a drive to try and reduce speeds and in turn improve safety.

Three sets of slicks tyres will be available at the test, which runs for four days, from Tuesday December 4 to Friday December 7 and which will include all eleven teams.

The test is part of an assessment as the sport could return to slick tyres from 2009.

"Bridgestone are supplying these tyres as a response to a request from the teams and the testing committee," a spokesperson for Bridgestone told Crash.net.

"The teams want to gain data as they look to the 2009 season.

"Any mileage completed on these tyres will be outside the scope of the testing committee agreement, as agreed between the teams.

"It is too early though for Bridgestone to comment on our tyre range for 2009, however we are always available to discuss ideas with the teams and the FIA."

I love that the worlds "most high tech" race class, doesn't allow slick tires, lmao.

yea me too... and active aero, and a reduction in engine restrictions... and mass dampers, and pretty much everything else that they've banned over the years.

Or just cut to the chase and give all the teams the same car, just different cylinder heads and stickers.
