Latest US 'Veyron Slayer' unveiled

American company unveils Exige-a-like hypercar.

Hennessey Performance Engineering - famed mainly for completely bonkers 1,000bhp Dodge Vipers has unveiled its first attempt at a ground-up original supercar, to be called the Venom GT.

It would use the twin-turbo Dodge V10 from the company's Venom 1000 cars, mounted in a midships chassis with power going through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels.

Despite claims of a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds and a power-to-weight ratio of just under 1,000bhp per tonne, company founder John Hennessey is quick to point out that his new car is not being built as a direct competitor to the Veyron, "'The Veyron is an ultra fast and ultra luxurious grand touring car which also happens to be quicker and faster than any other road car, except for our Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT which beat the Veyron earlier this year from 0-200 mph. The Venom GT will be a much more engaging sports car to drive by challenging the driver with 1000+ HP in a chassis that is nearly 1500 lbs lighter than the Bugatti."

He claims that he already has several existing Hennessey customers who want to buy the new car, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Lotus Exige GT1. His plan is to have a prototype ready by 2009 and, if demand is strong enough, put it into limited production soon after that.

That's cool. It'll be nowhere as user friendly as a Veyron, nor does it have the style and quality.

But I like it!

Still won't get any Veyron buyers over though.

they're not trying to get any Veyron customers, it's a completely different kind of car. I bet $1m that Top Gear never test it and dethrone the Veyron tho.

Just because the Caparo is made in the UK, doesnt mean they wont test this thing. They have after all tested the corvette, America's sportscar, in quite a famous review.

Hey, Roman!

You made it over to this mad house. Cool :)

Besides, if you can afford a Veyron, you probably can also afford to park one of these next to it if you wanted to.

Hennessey is a tuner... never created their own car from scratch before... guess it's much cheaper to "follow" someone else's design... :crash

either that or it was designed by the same dude that designed the exige, with a photocopier and a "*1.5" feature.

or a 3rd option is that it was wind tunnel designed and..... as we all know, wind tunnels have a way of bringing designs together.

I do definitely prefer this "type" of car tho, just raw.

nothing to it but you and the road, connected by a stiff chassis and asphault rippling power, both acceleration and stopping.

Love it, but the beauty of the Veyron is it works outside of the track aswell. I wouldn't be able to drive that thing out my street without leaving half the front bumper behind.
Not to mention that would just never in a million years be considered road legal here. In the UK probably, but here you can forget about it.
