Fazerfire

So in the thread about oil it seems to be the consensus to use motorcycle specific oil. What about any kind of engine flush. I know with a car you can add Seafoam to the oil or use an engine flush such as Amsoil. Would using one of these in a motorcycle damage the clutch? My Fazer smokes just a little and I was wanting to run something through it to try and clean up the rings in case one it sticking.

yamaha ring free
yamaha recommends this product. I've used it . it works, but I cannot tell you it does any miracle to the inside of your engine. IMO adding something to the oil will not directly affect the combustion chamber enough to change anything.
and adding anything like that to the oil runs the risk of destroying the clutch material .
IMO if your crankcase is dirty change the oil more frequently . you don't want any major rush of crud coming out all at once . the products that clean your crankcase can actually cause some systemic problems by releasing too much crud too fast .
IMO start changing your oil every thousand miles until it looks like the oils is coming out clean . if you are having dirty engine buildup in the crank case.
if your problem is in the combustion chamber use the ring free.
All my opinion . so take it or leave it
Edit: also if amsoil or any motorcycle related product is made to go in the tank and do what the ring free does I'm sure it would be ok. I'm not promoting the Yamaha product , but it works and it is made for your bike etc. etc.
