In today's morning news...


ACWORTH, Ga. -- Police say they've arrested three young boys on charges they kidnapped and raped an 11-year-old girl in the woods near an Acworth apartment complex.

Police say the boys -- who are 8 and 9 years old -- are in a Cobb County youth detention center but face adult criminal charges.

Police reports show the girl went to authorities Saturday for the alleged attack, which she says happened Thursday.

The victim told police they had been playing outside the West Ridge Apartments before the attack.

"The three boys have been charged with crimes ranging from rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment," said Capt. Wayne Bennard of the Acworth Police Department.

I'm wondering if they will be tried as adults. Even though what they did was horrible, their minds are under-developed which is what the defense will probably use to get them tried as juveniles.

Right, I don't necessarily think that's wrong since a 9 y/o can't intellectually comprehend what they're doing or the way the world works. But it's obvious they need some serious help.

They may be able to turn this around as young as they are but only time will tell.

very true....or at that age, a case of playing "doctor" might have gone very wrong. that's about the age where kids are starting to figure that stuff out. she 'could' be claiming rape on something that's often just a part of growing up.

Yeah, I don't want to belittle her claims either but it could've been something as simple as the boys made fun of her and she got mad and ran home and told her mother they raped her. I just hope a complete investigation is done before they throw the boys to the wolves.

Good points I hadnt thought of and a very good possibility. The girl is just young enough to have maybe gone along with something like that but just old enough to maybe have developed some guilt about the event and made up a story to cover her self. Man, that throws a whole nother twist on the thing.

WOW, that is insane. You never know what the truth is when comes to kids this young. I can't imagine how the parents must feel all the way around. If I was the father of the daughter I would want to kill the parents and the kids!!! If I the father of the boys I think I would be in shock and disbelief. Not to mention angry and in denile.

8 & 9 year olds may know rape is wrong but do they know to what extent it is wrong. I seriously doubt they would realize the psychological damage it causes the victim. To them it's probably just something they saw on the internet or in some movie and they don't realize how serious it is.

I want to believe the girl is lying because it's easier for me to believe an 11 y/o telling a lie (since they do it all the time) than for little boys to be capable of dragging a girl into the woods while she's kicking and crying, holding her down, and raping her. I just can't picture little kids that evil..but I guess it could happen. If it turns out the boys did rape her I'd be curious if some other person didn't put them up to it.

11, 9, 8...year old kids are supposed to be playing with marbles and dolls or something, and not even KNOW there is such a thing as rape.

What in Pete's name is this world coming to... Happy that I'm taking my kids and moving away from the city to a community where the average age is like 65 :hooray
