I recently bought a 2006 RSTD. Originally, it started cold on the first try with the choke pulled all the way out. Now, I am having a problem, and it takes 2 or 3 trys to get it started. Running hot, it runs and starts excellent. Any ideas? I have recently added Sea Foam and a different gas using premium. It does seem to be better, but still doesn't start cold on the first try. Took it in to the dealer, and they said it was fine. But, as they are not a "Gold Tech shop", I am not sure they knew what they were doing, and didn't want to bother with it.

did the bike sit for a long time before you bought it? also the tour deluxe and ventures are usually set up a little lean from the factory, after you run a few tanks of fresh gas through it, see how it runs then , maybe time for a set of plugs, air filters, and rich`en up the pilot screws a 1/4 turn. hope that helps.

You mention 91. I experimented w/ octanes in the late 80's and found my 1K ran better and got better mileage w/ 91. Never went back anything else. Altitude plays a part also.

To change the plug, do you have to take the side brackets off, and maybe the tank? Also, what do you think about NGK Iridium plugs?

if you take the tank off you will be able to get straight on them ,the tank is not very hard to get off, seat first then the tank. the ngk iridium plugs are good.
