: I hate having to do base rules
memphiskang 11-18-2007, 03:06 PM I did the experience riders course yesterday at Palomar. I went there because the instructors on base act like they are gods when it comes to riding. They treat Marines like $hit. Expecially one of the instructors. He told two of my boys and me on three seperate occasions the we were going to die and should not have bought our R1's. This is when we went just to get our cards to ride on base. Anyway's when i get to Palomar i see the same damn guy given a guy $hit already because saw the decal on the bike. The first thing he asked me was where was my vest i told him i was under my seat and he left me alone. Then he immediately told when i come to get my yellow card he wouldn't give it to me because of my flushies and license plate. I have to put everything back stock. I know i know i heard it before, but the way he said it pissed me off. The course wasn't too bad he was fing with my boy more than me. So when i get home i had to find all the pieces and jimmy rig my plates and lights. Sorry for the rant.

Wait a minute.... Are you trying to say you and your boys are marines and in order to ride on your base, you have to get a certification card? And are you also saying that your fellow marine instructors on base are dicks towards marines and that's why you went off base to do a different course at palomar only to find the same dick there too?
R1Lover 11-18-2007, 04:16 PM WOW......
Bogie 11-18-2007, 04:22 PM Well that just sucks!! :(

yeah on base you have to go through a class every year or every two years to be able to ride on base. the course on base is free, but the waiting list is too damn long and you have you have to put up with the on base instructors. some of them used to be active duty and are complete dicks towards the riders. some of the instructors teach out at palomar also, but usually you never see them you get to laid back cool instructors. it's ok to critcize if you are teaching me something, but don't be a smartass because you think you won't get your ass whooped and we have to put up with it.

But they're not active right? I don't need to ride that bad, i woulda spit in his face and told him to fuck off at the least. Your a better man than me :ninja or maybe one of mkinlas bitch slaps would do.
Snair 11-18-2007, 04:44 PM thats fucked up

nope not active duty, but everyone just wants to ride. that's why they put up with it. my boy wanted slap the $hit out of him yesterday:lol
Jim's R1 11-18-2007, 06:04 PM Our instructors are always pretty laid back. At leat they treat me well. Our head instructor wants an R1 so that may make a difference.
I have more problems with the contract gate guards than anyone else. I had one tell me to take off my helmet so she could verify my ID, I told her no that it wasn't in the regulation that we had to do that. She said she wasn't going to let me on base and call my shirt for not listening to a gate guard. I told her go ahead, I have my cell phone on me and can answer it while I wait...she waived me through :mrgreen.
Sometimes folks just want to mess with motorcycle riders, pisses me off too.
Jim
kneedragger77 11-18-2007, 06:18 PM I know what you deal with.....the oppression that service members deal with when riding on/off post. The catering to the lowest idiot, which is why you have to take a few courses and wear ridiculous gear....just in case something happens the gov't can say they did everything in their power to protect you. Oh, better wear that roadguard reflective vest! That thing is a lifesaver!!!
memphiskang 11-18-2007, 07:04 PM they are changing the roadguard vest rule soon. you won't have to wear it if your jacket has reflective material already on it:mrgreen
valerossi 11-18-2007, 07:06 PM thats fucked up
:imwst
:confused So what does the instructor ride, a cruiser? :dunno
memphiskang 11-18-2007, 07:18 PM nah something like this except maroon and he looks like one of the guys from blink 182
valerossi 11-18-2007, 07:20 PM nah something like this except maroon
Ok, I think he's just jealous... :fact :mrgreen
memphiskang 11-18-2007, 07:32 PM probably. the other instructor that was there teaches on the naval base in san diego and was cool as hell. he had his 750 track bike there and all. i asked him tunes of questions before he took off to willow springs.

I remember having to take that MSF (experienced rider) course.. :ninja
Actually, for my wife, who was a new rider, it was awesome. But, not that I'm the king rider or anything, for me it was weak. Much of their data was old and outdated too. Dont use a lot of front brake because you need the rear too etc..... :lol
not sure how the rear will work when it is floating anyways
Firehawk 11-19-2007, 12:43 PM they are changing the roadguard vest rule soon. you won't have to wear it if your jacket has reflective material already on it:mrgreen
actually, that rule has been changed for two years now. :thumbup
Jim's R1 11-19-2007, 01:20 PM actually, that rule has been changed for two years now. :thumbup
Supposed to be like that! Gate guards try to make there own rules sometimes. I know a guy who has 5 reflectors and reflective piping on his jacket and the guard wasn't going to let him on base. I wear one of those reflective belt around my shoulders coming into the gate so I can fold it up and put it in my pocket. Saves some hassles.

Yep. That just has to do with them being uneducated. Word of mouth can be a really bad thing sometimes. "Well, I heard motorcyclists still needed vests". Bull. If they're going to be enforcing the laws, they should be the smartest ones ON the laws. Several times I've had to get into the regs myself, and go back and show someone how stupid they are.
memphiskang 11-19-2007, 02:17 PM actually, that rule has been changed for two years now. :thumbup
i'll have to find that because it might just be our base rules making it all the time
memphiskang 11-19-2007, 03:03 PM :imwst

i saw his bike today when i went to get my card it's a suzuki 750 katana

I know NASNI is good to go....as are all the Navy bases in the San Diego area. Miramar might be a different story.

Only problem i see with that is some moron is gonna say you don't have enough reflective material.
probably. the other instructor that was there teaches on the naval base in san diego and was cool as hell. he had his 750 track bike there and all. i asked him tunes of questions before he took off to willow springs.
Did you ask him why the other instructor was such a dick?

I'm at pendleton:crash if it ain't strict they make sure it is
Only problem i see with that is some moron is gonna say you don't have enough reflective material.
yup it'll happen
Did you ask him why the other instructor was such a dick?
nah, didn't feel like having a problem if it got back to him

Yep, Marines are a special breed. They always have their own rules for everything.
But, probably more than anything, they want the vests on you guys because of the wide open roads out there. Lots of speeding going on by both bikes and cagers. My aunt and uncle were almost killed on Basilone Road about three years ago...vehicle crossed the DY and went head on with them.
Snair 11-19-2007, 07:19 PM i am sooooo fucking happy i dont have to play those stupids fucking games anymore.
Jim's R1 11-20-2007, 03:15 AM Yep, Marines are a special breed.
Yes they are!! I spent a deployment with some Marines, I've never met a group of folks who made sure their brothers were taken care of the way they did.
i am sooooo fucking happy i dont have to play those stupids fucking games anymore.
From the sound of your attitude, I think most of us are glad you don't either.

memphiskang 11-20-2007, 08:01 AM :lol
valerossi 11-20-2007, 08:11 AM I've got a solution for you memphiskang... :sneaky
Next time, try to borrow a 750 Katana or whichever bike the instructor uses to do these courses... :crash :mrgreen
JakeR1 11-20-2007, 08:29 AM USMC-wide the rule has not been changed. Memphis, I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but most of the Ridercoaches teach on base as well as in town. Here's a thought, try actually FOLLOWING base regulations, you won't get crap for it. I know it sucks, and I know that those stock turn signals produce way too much drag, robbing you of precious HP, but for a second, consider that there is more going on here. Sure, turn signals and license plates by themselves aren't that big of a deal, but with some people, you give them an inch, and they'll take a mile. Especially with Marines, because you know that they like to see just how far they can take things. I taught on base for a couple years while I was active duty. You know what? Most people didn't have a problem making their bike street-legal for the course. But I did encounter some guys that had attitudes like yours. Guys that already know everything, can't be taught, and are only there to get a card. The Ridercoach was right to deny you your card until you can meet base regs. If he was unprofessional about it, that's another story, but don't bitch because you can't seem to follow the rules.
memphiskang 11-20-2007, 08:31 AM yeah i'll do that, but his bike looks like it's about to fall apart
:lol
Firehawk 11-20-2007, 08:32 AM Knew it was only a matter of time before Jake weighed in......;)
valerossi 11-20-2007, 08:43 AM yeah i'll do that, but his bike looks like it's about to fall apart
:lol
That's fine as long as your Katana doesn't look cleaner/newer than his... :lol
memphiskang 11-20-2007, 08:52 AM :lol
Snair 11-20-2007, 10:01 AM i NEVER understood the road guard vest thing. it may have changed since i got out but back when there were staff turds who had never even ridden a bike wanting to enforce those same rules with the vests off post.

woooo buddy attitude like mine. I don't have an attitude about anything and who said i knew everything, if I knew everything I wouldn't be taking the course no matter what base said would I. You missed the whole point. It's not about following base regs I'm a nco and follow base regs mang. I keep the order folded up in my pocket because of guys that like to mess with people on bikes. I don't have a problem making my bike "street legal" for the course or to get my card. I'm saying this guy has a bad attitude towards new or old riders that are in his course or that come to get their yellow card period. Hell when I went to get my card yesterday I was just standing in the room listening to him shoot the shit with one of the other instructors and he was talking about his attitude towards some students is you suck why do you have a bike to seeing some of them learning something. I defintely know what you are talking about with some guys taking as much as they can get, but i'm not one of them. I have the flushies and the running light and a tag light for my modded license plate. So it's not like i didn't have any lights. So i'm not bitching since i can follow the rules mang

It sucks that he's a dick. As with any walk of life, you are always going to have at least one bad apple. One thing, when teaching on base, most of us are generally a little more brash. This is just because for most of the military folk, it works. We're used to being yelled directions at, and if we f it up, we get told. Some guys may take it too far. I would be lying if I said that I haven't taught people, and at some point asked myself why they bought a bike. I've even sent people home, and suggested that maybe they take up golf or something, because riding will get them killed. I'm not going to defend being an outright asshole, that is not right. I will say, though, that in the course of being an MSF Ridercoach, we see A LOT of riders, and can generally pick out who will do well and who won't, who will survive and who might not. Time and experience may make people seem jaded, but overall, it's your safety that is our ultimate responsibility. I refuse to sign someone's card if I am of the opinion they are a danger to themselves and others on the road.
memphiskang 11-20-2007, 01:44 PM You are right about us being use to direct and in your face teaching. I hear ya on not giving a card to someone if they seem like they might get themselves of someone esle hurt.
J Dollaz 11-24-2007, 02:00 PM Sorry for all the Drama Man!
Did you end up with the Proper Paperwork to ride on Base?
memphiskang 11-24-2007, 05:55 PM yeah i got everything i needed
badboyforlife 11-29-2007, 11:19 AM yeah of those boot ass gate guards just tried to give my boy a ticket for wearing boots that didnt come up over the ankle, so he had to show him the regs that said the over the ankle shit is just a recommendation. i hate those fuck wads at the gate who think they have power.
Firehawk 11-30-2007, 01:17 AM i hate those fuck wads at the gate who think they have power.
good thing they decide who gets on and who doesn't.
hmmm....guess they have a little more power than we thought. :mrgreen
Nice first post, BTW. :lol
