Have had this problem with the bike twice this season (and only started this season).
2003 Yamaha YZF-R6 – 29000KM
About a month ago, I was out for a run, on the way to get gas (bike was running on excess at this point). Ever since I bought the bike, it has been idling between ~1.5K and 2K Rpms. After I filled up and stopped at a red light, the rpms dropped to just over 0 (on its own) and shut off. I’d restarted it, again just idling over 0. So a buddy who was with us adjusted the idle (so that it was now, after being adjusted up, idling between 2k & 3k rpms), turning it up and told me to run at that for a bit and turn it down after a while when it seems ok. After a few km’s, I adjusted the idle back down to ~1.5 & 2 again. Seemed Fine.
Few rides after, didn’t have to adjust the idle, seemed perfectly fine. Filled/Topped up and went on a few runs never had a issue
Last night, I topped up the gas as we were going for another run. About 1/4 to 1/2 a tank this time when I topped it up. After doing so, same thing happened, went to a red light, stopped the bike and the idling dropped again to just over 0, and shut off. Re-started the bike, idled just above 0 and shut off again. So again, adjusted the idle (so that it was now, after being adjusted up, idling between 2k & 3k rpms) for a few km’s. Turned the bike off, took a break for a few minutes. Got back on the bike, restarted it, and it was now idling at 4000 rpms on its own. So now again the bike seems fine. So I adjusted the idle back down to 1.5k and 2k rpms.
Anyone have this issue? or any suggestions on what the problem could be with the RPMS just dropping and bike shutting off? Someone i spoke with earlier suggested seafoam to put in the tank? Or would it just be better to take it to the dealer instead of prolonging a issue with an "injection cleaner"?
