Hello!

So I'm the proud new owner of an 02 YZF 600r! I picked the bike up yesterday for a resonable price. It needs tires, which he included new ones with the bike just have to put

them on, but looks like the maitinence has been a little neglected on the bike. This is my first bike so I'm new to everything. First, what things should I check to make sure

everything is good to go on the bike? I assume oil, but boyond that I'm not sure. The chain is rusty so I plan to clean that up. It gets a little worse though. The back breaks

squeak a little and the entire left side lights dont work. I'm not sure if its the bulbs or what it is yet. I'm reaaaaly hoping its not an electrical problem. I don't have a

ton of money left over from the purchase to drop in the bike. Anyone know roughly what brakes would cost to be purchased and installed? Also the turn signals really are

worrying me. Any help is appreciated!

A little rust on the chain can be cleaned but if it has kinks or tight spots replace it. Chains and sprockets should almost always be replaced as a set.
if it just needs pads, those are cheap and super easy to replace. If the rotor is gouged or warped the cost is def more but still pretty reasonable (ebay) and fairly easy to replace as well. As for the lights... start with the easy stuff first. Check bulbs, connectors and if its beyond that you will probably need a volt meter to check for power and continuity. A proper service manual is always a good thing to have and may be your best friend here.

Pads: approx $20
Rotor: new Stock $160
new aftermarket approx $120
used stock off ebay probably dirt cheap

Here is a Factory Service Manual that you can download. In the electrical or troubleshooting section, they will cover recommended steps of solving elec issues/shorts/gremlins

Hope it helps...Good Luck

If you have to replace bulbs look into PIAA bulbs they are the same wattage and way brighter.
