Guys, just bought a 93 yzf750 and the chain is rubbing on the plastic chain guard closest to the front sprocket. Is this normal? Got it up the rear stand, in neutral rotating the rear wheel and you can see it rubbing.

is the rear wheel aligned? chain is straight? the rear swing arm might have marks on each side to align the rear wheel.

i would check that first. the plastic cover is removable, maybe try pulling it off and inspecting it. it might have been installed incorrectly by the previous owner.

good luck, and :welcome

Thanks for the reply. I think the rear wheel is not aligned correctly. The marks on either side of the swingarm are not aligned to the same mark. I will align it today and see how it goes. Do they have to be set to the same mark on either side?

Generally they both have to line up. Consult your owners manual, if you do not have one, get one I'm sure they are a few floating around.

Thanks for your help guys.

Just got the yzf750, and looking forward to many happy miles in the future. Stepping up from a nsr250, so a big change for me.

Anything I need to know about the yzf750 in particular? I have found the gearbox a bit of a chore, hard to find neutral etc. I have read that this is a common trait, is that right? Any mods that I can do to make gear changes easier? Are there any mods you guys recommend to make this bike any better?

Easiest to do is use oil like Motul. Or something that is trans and engine compatible. It might make the clutches release better. The previous owner might have put in racing clutches and that would make the lever action stiff w/ that extra friction and plate in there plus heavy springs. You would have to pull the clutches off the basket and count them to see if they are stock or after market. The other thing you have to have the gears undercut, thats a last resort thing.

I use Mobile Extra 4T semi synthetic. Is that okay, or is Motul that much better?

check to see what size front sprocket is on your bike , if the previous owner dropped one on the front the chain will rub on the 750 , on my 94 the marks on the chain blocks were not aligned they were one mark off, had to check it from the swing arm bolt to the rear axle to get it straight , and did make more noise until i did that , handles better also , right handers were not very comfortable
