I have a 88 Genesis and love it. I keep reading about 2nd gear problems in the late 80's/early 90's bikes but I find no specific answers on the causes and fixes. I have a Factory Pro kit coming. But I'm not sure it will help.

Right now, my bike shifts 1/2 and back down but second gear is rough and clunks.

Bike has 12XXX miles on it and runs awesome.

The Facotry pro kit is just a shift star and in some cases includes the detent arm. It will help make for more positive shifts, but if your bike already has excessive wear on the dogs between gears it will not cure that.

The Factory Pro shift kit is not going to be the shift star on that model. Just the shift dent arm and new spring. He is correct about the tranny though. You need to start looking for replacement parts for it. Or a complete used tranny.
