: i'm a ****
mkz9876 08-29-2009, 11:31 AM had the carbs off the yzf last night to try an sort why it missing at low revs stripped and cleaned the carbs nothing obvious so check the inlet manifold rubbers to find 2 had split so i glued them up with puncture repair kit glue and a bit of old innertube glued round the outside as a tempory job, put it all back together fired it up and it sounded ok,
time was getting on so couldnt be bothered to take it for a spin and check it,
took it out today got about 7 miles and it was popping an farting an missing all through the rev range worse than before, got home pulled the tank off and then i realised id forgot to reconect the fuel pump, put it back together its now running better than it has in months,
moral of the story im a t**t
2nd moral of the story double check absolutly bloody everything

Been there myself. My favorite was thinking I could skip the three gas stations in town and hit the one mid point on a trip. Ran out of fuel two miles from the one I wanted to stop at. Nothing like pushing a bike two miles. :hung

haha i did that just the other day...ran it out of gas like a block away from my appt and we have a station right next door and i coasted into the appt lot and then pushed it to the pump. there was a Harley there and he just laughed and said "it always happens... dont feel bad"
YZF750r 09-05-2009, 03:12 PM HaHa, i love "ran out of fuel" stories!
My fuel light comes on, then i splutter to a halt, then after flicking to reserve and a couple of clicks on the button all returns to normal!
Surely the light should come on a few miles before having to switch to reserve??
Maybe i'm being fussy :duh
96YamahaFZR 09-08-2009, 01:30 PM bikes have fuel lights?
tstugelmayer 09-08-2009, 08:47 PM Where's the reserve switch??? I have exactly 9 miles after my low fuel level light comes on to get to a gas station...ya, been there and have done that.
fjorn 09-09-2009, 03:03 AM It's in the fuel shutoff valve usually.
tstugelmayer 09-09-2009, 08:00 PM boy!! where is the fuel shut off valve??
I know my bike was a race bike at one time as there are several changes that have been made to it. Runs great, but some things are definatley missing.
fjorn 09-10-2009, 03:03 AM Typically, it's on the left hand side of the bike just below the frame rail between the tank and the carbs. Being that it's a former race bike, they might have cut the large part of the flip lever off for safety reasons.
It can also be called a "petcock valve"
mkz9876 09-10-2009, 04:55 AM this is yzf750 right? if so its usually and electronic switch to the left hand side of the fairing it may well have been taken out and the hole covered up if so its probably dangling under the fairing somewhere like mine is lol
tstugelmayer 09-10-2009, 09:35 PM It's a 94 YZF750 and there is no reserve switch that I can see. Is it a rocker switch, where is it mounted on the fairing?
I see it on the wiring diagram in my service manual, but it is no where to be fouund on the bike.
There is a capped off switch cover on the left (clutch) side hand controls, could that be it?
mkz9876 09-11-2009, 01:35 AM not my bike a pic i pinched off ebay but if you look at the fairing by the handle bar thats the reserve switch, it may have been moved under the fairing somewhere so you might need to take it off to find it, if you need the colours of the wires let me know an i will find out,
96YamahaFZR 09-11-2009, 08:17 AM just doin a lil maintenance on the bike today..and im new to yamahas and i have no idea how to change the oil:)
i know where the filler hole is...but idk how to drain it out!!!(haha yea i know im a noob)
and another thing...i need to fix a lil hairline crack on my starter cover and i need to take it off in order to fill it in...would i need a new gasket? or could i just silicon it?
Motomaniac 09-11-2009, 10:44 AM It is best to find manual for YZF750 (there is manual for yzf750r, yzf750sp and thunderace) and there you have many things explained really very good, it can help you).
Anyway to change oil, it's good to run bike first little to warm up (I hope i wrote this good :)). You have screw on right left side down. There you need to drop oil. Than you take off oil filter (it's located on front of bike, below radiator cooler). After that put back that screw, put new oil filter and put in oil on right side of bike, you know where.
Because my english is not best :). If you want I will go to garage to take pictures and show you.
*Edit
Oh... I though it was YZF750, sorry, probably is simmilar.

i did a lil search on google and did some picture surfing and got it all figured out
the biggest pain was getting the filter off from thousand degree header pipes:D
anyways i had to take off both side fairings to get to the starter cover and filter.

tstugelmayer 09-12-2009, 09:21 PM Absolutely nothing like that on my bike, no switch hole in the fairing either....
mkz9876 09-13-2009, 03:13 AM hmmm, the only thing i can suggest is pulling the fairing off and having a hunt round underneath see if you can find the switch under there somewhere,
YZF750r 09-14-2009, 05:49 AM Yeah MKZ9876 is right, the YZF750r & sp have a fuel ON/RES switch on the left side of the fairing (underneath the left handlebar), i think Yamaha were trying to move away from fiddley fuel taps tucked away under the tank, it's a nice touch i think!
Motomaniac 09-14-2009, 06:02 PM Only 1993 and 1994 YZF750 models got reserve switch.
