Hello all,
I have an 86 FZ with what feels like a sacked out rear shock. Does anyone have an aftermarket one in great shape lying around unused and no longer needed? New, [NOS], would best, but probably not realistic. Or, perhaps, a tip on rehabing the stock one? Any input would be great. Thanks, Ken.

Hey,
I hope not to be a pain, but 72 people looked at this post, without comment? I bet someone out there has some sort of input, insight,or perhaps the shock from E. Lawson's 1986 Daytona 200 winner? Yeah, I know the bike is older, but it is still ridden and well loved.
Thanks for your time,
Ken

That bike is old enough that finding a newer shock may not work. But you should be able to find one from another bike to use. How long is the shock bolt hole to bolt hole? Is the bottom mount a fork or eye? I know a few people have done FZR1000 swingarm upgrades and swapped the shocks as well. There was a Fox racing shock from a FZ600 on eBay a little while ago that might fit if the length is right.
There was a guy on another forum who was swapping some things around on his FZ750. I'll see if he knows of anything.
Hope this helps.

Sorry but it's a little touch on parts that old... the best bet it to get an aftermarket or keep posting on a bunch of sites.
If all else fails get the specs of the original and match it up to a newer shock. You should be able to find something newer that will work or be close enough.

Do you know for sure that the shock is even bad? Have you had it checked out? it might be as easy as getting a new spring put on it?

Hey Kensea:
Give the Waynesville guys (in USA) a shot...I looked up your part on their site....here's the link:

Try them. I use these guys for new OEM VMax and FZX700 parts...they've been good.

Elimax and cad600,
Thanks for the leads. I may go the whole way and spring,(pun intended), for a Workspreformance shock. If I do not, you guys kicked in some great info. Thanks!
All bikes are cool, even old ones! :old

Did you ever pick up the Works shock or did you go another route? I have the same saggy shock issues with my newly acquired '86 FZ750 and want to know. Works Performance quoted me $795 for a shock.
