Was looking to run a 6" rear wheel on my YZF750, would like to run a 190/55 17 tyre? Has any got experiance of this fitting and handling etc and what wheels can be used.
Reason for asking is will prob run on a few track days and would it be good if I could use the 190/55 like I use on my other bike

No difference between 180/55 and 190/55 apart from the 190/55 has a slightly bigger chicken strip

Had a look on some web sites, forums etc and some of the things ranged from slowing down stearing to sapping horse power due to extra weight of a larger diameter tyre and having to gear down to get same accel ?

does that not make it a bad thing?
i know from experiance you want your unsprung weight as low as possible hence people spending thousands on ligher wheels, swingarms brake components, so surely putting a larger and ultimatly heavier rear tyre on is going to unbalance things,
so all things considdered why would you want to run a 190?
understandable if like the rrx an rrw fireblades that run a 16" front wheel and changing it to a 17" vfr front wheel, because the range of tyres you can get in 16" is prety poor, is this the case with the 180 rear tyre that there is more choice in the 190 range?
sorry i hope my post doesnt sound like its having a dig at all i know my written word isnt the best, just trying to see if there is any benefit at all?

Your average joe spends hundreds to lighten, modify their bikes and make their bikes better, but do the majority improve their laps by a noticeable ammount maybe ride faster on the road or not ?
I may loose 1/2 a sec a lap, let you know on 4th but a 190/55 will give a larger contact patch over a 180/55, so that is the benifit to me
