the amount of oil needed is usually stamped on the case near the fill cap.
it is displayed in cm3 which is another way of saying cc's .
It will be like 650cm3 for example , but I don't know the exact amont. it is usually around 600-800cc's
the fuel ratio premix is partly up to the type of oil you are using, and part up to how the bike is set up .
I think the yamalube is set up for 32/1. it is also slightly up to how the bike is set up. it seems like 32/1 is the average mix ratio for the average oil.
I dont like mixing pre-mix brands or types , so If It were me I would call the original owner to find out what pre-mix is in the tank or drain the tank. If you call the OO I would find out what oil he had been running and what ratio, It is always a good idea to have the basic history of the bike.

:+1 on not mixing your pre-mix with the original owner's. 32:1 is pretty much the standard, but if you can get a hold of the original owner, he might have ran something different.

thanks to both of you for the info.
OO was very helpful. I drained all fluids and started over. almost 1 qt 10/40 4 stroke and for the premix 32:1 (4oz p. gallon).
Now if the damn rain would stop i am DYING to get out there and ride this thing.
All i hear is how much people love these bikes.
any other advice for a newbie to this bike?

there is a special trans oil you can run but I think the oil you are going to use will be fine.(thou I think yamaha uses 20/50 yamalube motor oil and it comes out to be similar to 80-90W 2stroke trans oil)
here is the thing: it is a precise amount that goes into the transmission just so we are clear. you need to measure it exactly with a ratio right cup or something similar. dealers sell the ratio right cups and they are helpful . I use mine all the time. for mixing pre mix, mx trans or putting exact amounts of dif fluid or trans fluid.

one last piece of advice: get on your gear, grab a towel and a change of clothes, and go out in the rain. nothing like getting filthy in the mud! :beer

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but I use Amsoil 100:1 oil mixed at ~80:1, and couldn't be happier with it.
Also, when premixing, it's better to do a large volume at once, Mix your 5 gallon jug and then fill from that. This way small errors in the mix quantity are worth less shift in the ratio.

that's why I said for the average oil like yamalube for a stock bike is 32/1, and also I said the ratio depends on the oil type/brand and the way the bike is set up.
I ran 50/1 type of oils mostly when I had a two stroke mx bike.
