Would that bike still be considered a middle weight legal bike?

The 848 is supposed to have a better power to weight ratio then the 999 did. :)

It's going to be a great bike... :)

600rr only cause i like the weight and how nimble the lil fucker is. i would love to test ride the 848 but i dont think dealerships hand out rides like that. i will have to wait for the NJ test rides.

Actually a lot of Ducati dealers to offer test rides.... it wouldn't hurt to ask your local one.

So will the maintenence regardless right?

Thats the only thing, holding me back!
I cant do, all that mechanical stuff by myself, besides an oil change!
and i've heard that Duc's need alot of TLC....:old

ummm no, not a chance... it's in a different category... :) One would compare the 848 to the jap class of 600's. :)

the newer Ducati have longer valve adjustment intervals 7500mi the old ducs were half that.
my take on Ducati and their need for tlc is imo related to euro III emissions standards . which if you have a newer sport bike you are in that boat anyway , Ducati feels strongly about making the bikes in the usa comply with these standards. If you were to go with aftermarket exhaust ,ecu and tuning from a mechanic who knows Ducati's the bikes run like a raped ape and are built and designed to last. the 848 has wet clutch which recently has not been common on the superbike linup. it will have alot less noise than the 1098, but due to desmo motor there may be some mechanical noise you are not used to.
First service(600mi) $150-250. until 7500mi just oil changes.

Speaking from experience, I own an '08 1098 and have owned an '06 R1. The Duc has lots of eye appeal, but under that exterior lives more maintenance gremlins than you can imagine. imo, buy the Yamaha you'll be much happier.

By the way, those new " longer valve adjustment intervals" that Macattack speaks about willl cost you anywhere from $750 to $800 at your friendly, local Ducati dealer who will be smiling all the way to the bank. In fairness, that cost is for the 7,500 mile service which must be complied with in order to keep your warrenty in effect. And, from the 600 to 7,500 mile interval, only one oil change is recommended, which you can count on costing $150 at your Ducati dealer (oil not included) Forgot, they'll clean and adjust your chain too if needed. Oops, they'll throw in a bike wash too. Now, my R6 gets the same treatment at my local Yamaha dealership for $45. I know, do it yourself and save. My apt. complex won't allow it.

That's only if you bend over for your local dealer, there are many dealers that charge less. (normal)

You can see this thread for more info. :) Ducati Superbikes (http://www.ducati-superbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13391&highlight=service+charge)

600 mile service - $144.38
7500 mile service - $ 256.88
15000 mile service - $ 362.20
After 7500 mile Valve service ("Service A") - $ 294.80
After 15000 mile Valve service ("Service B") - $366.30

Looks like it would be wise for me to take a trip to CA to have my bike serviced. I'd enjoy the ride and save money too. Where are you located, R1Lover? If those prices are as you say, I'd be saving big money and stop bitching about owning a Duc.

You'll love this. I take my bike to MotoCorsa which is part of the Tonkin auto group. I also work for the Tonkin's at Wilsonville Nissan. I got a good deal on the 1098 and get the employee discounts, but the service costs aren't even close to those quoted by R1Lover.

:lol go Tonkin!

check out EDR performance, they may do the Duc tunes, i got my bike done tuned up by them, and also had it dyno'd by them as well, good guys, pretty competetive pricewise as well, alot better than procaliber and the likes :)

Sounds like I need to go to Wyotech and open a Ducati service shop and do service only. I could cut the dealer price in half and make a fortune.

A great idea. I know two mechanics that went to UTI in Phoenix, which is similar to Wyotech, and they received top notch training. UTI also has the moto mechanics course. The motorcycle "boutiques" are going to charge whatever the traffic will bear. I guess some people just feel a certain elevated social status when they overpay for service. I'd better stop there. Don't get me going in the middle of my happy hour. lol !!!
