ok so i was checking out some race rails and the whole cutting my plastics wouldnt bother me that much but i wanted to know what i would use to make a clean enough cut that it wouldnt look like crap any suggestions or feed back would be helpful twards my decision to purchase.

Are you talking for the 07?
I was looking at race railz awhile back when deciding on frame/fairing protection.
The biggest problem I saw was that they were very intrusive to the plastics. You would have to cut them to deep at the weakest part of the fairings that I passed on them. Poorly designed for the 07/08 R1's. For most other years/makes/models of bikes they seemed to be very well designed protection.

If you decide to go with them, the best thing I can think of to cut plastics is a dremel and a steady hand.

a sewing machine throttle on a dremel makes it substantially smoother too. I prefer a dremel with a sewing machine throttle over a dentists drill with a throttle for engine porting, better response at the bottom end of the scale.

I haven't seen a picture of the race rails installed. Is it like a slider where it's a single round hole where it bolts to the frame/engine or does it run he length of the rail?

I would think if it's an odd shaped hole, one could use a hole saw in reverse and then use a Dremel for the odd part. :dunno

you have to cut where the fairings on an 07 R1 *( \V/ )* it is a really weak spot on the fairing but the are 10X stronger than frame sliders google 2007 R1 race rails images.

if they are circular cuts you need to make I'd get spend the $$ on a holesaw

tape the outside where you are going to cut too and cut from the outside (nice part)

IMO the absolute best frame slider made for the 07/08 R1's is by Motovation (http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=254).

I've personally gone through 3 different sliders.

First one was ShoGun. Most worthless slider out there. Has one mounting point. Very likely to be the cause of fairing damage from even a stand still tipover. Thank god I didnt locktite them and they fell off.

2nd one was by Graves, Has two mounting points. Decent brackets, crash tested and did exactly as they should.

3rd set is now Motovations, Have three mounting points. Solid, beefy, highest quality slider ever! I would highly recommend these!

Add the Motovation clutch slider set, rear spools and fork sliders you have pretty much full bike protection without any fairing mods.

I've got Shogun's I've been down on em and very little damage to plastics had to replace the tail cuz it cracked but only minor scratches on the mid so I did that one too

I was only referencing the ShoGuns for an 07/08 R1. The offset bracket design was horrible. I've seen ShoGuns on other makes/models that were just fine.
