My recently acquired yzf 750 is making a noise that i suspect could be rod knock?

It comes and goes though and is akin to the noise flat slide carbs make when their slides rattle or even detonation sounding.

I have bogged the bike in 4th gear at under 3000 rpms and there is no noise.
Its most noticeable when blipping the throttle in neutral around 2500-3000 rpms.

I am told this is indicative of the exup valve clatter but wanted to ask those in the know!

There is no noise while idling at all.

While i know that internet diagnosing is difficult, any help/advice from long term yzf exup equipped owners would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for any/all assistance!

i would try removing the cables to your exup and see if the noise is still there if it is gone then your problem lys in the exup , i know the valves can make noises like you described , good luck

It's most likely the "Yamaha Tick" The early generation motors were much worse then the newer ones. You will not hear anything from the flapper unless it's broken or very worn out. It's also at the bottom of the motor towards the back so it should not sound as if coming from the motor area but underneath it.

undo the EXUP cables and tie the valve open.leave the EXUP servo hooked up and run it.that will rule out the EXUP valve.some of these motors did make more noise than others.
