sorry to break the bad news guys, if anyone follows/has followed snowcross over the years. Probably the sports greatest talent, atleast the most revolutionary riding style in the early years, is Blair Morgan.

He severed his spinal cord and slipped vertibrae while practicing for a supercross event in Montreal. The last SX event of the year before he was set to switch back into snowcross mode. This leaves him paralyzed from the middle of the chest down. This happened on the 20th of September (last Saturday). As of the 22nd (this past Monday) he's stabalized, out of ICU and they're arranging to transfer him closer to his home (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) so his family can be around him.

He's going to be going into rehabilitation very soon, and doubtless will have the best physiotherapists available.

Brings a tear to my eye, he's a good guy, I've shot paintball with him and always looked up to him for his fighting spirit and tons of natural ability. And that despite having a career in motocross, that the sleds were always where his heart was.

Damn. Sorry to hear it :(

ya, sucks bigtime, guy was a Mick Doohan, changed the sport completely and always had a fire in his belly something fierce. I can remember him saying "I don't care if the sled is upside down and I'm in last place in turn 1, I'm going to win." And having backed that up at the X games.

Anyways, for anyone interested, here's his website Blair Morgan Racing Team (http://www.bmrt.com/) And you can send recovery wishes to blairmorganrecovery at gmail dotcom (sorry for the stagger, but it'll keep the spam out of his inbox, something tells me that's the last thing he wants just now.)

Anyone know if he was wearing a Leatt or that type of device? wonder if it would have helped?

God I hope, I really hope, we can come up with a way to fix this kind of injury.. I just keep hearing about it and worry like heck about Gavin as he gets older..

Thoughts out to Blair and his family and friends.. Get well soon..

no word re a leatt, but the break was in the middle of his back so I doubt it would have helped.

ya I'm hoping a lot that we can develope some way to fix this stuff. This is 2 of my heroes now out with severed spines in the middle of the back.

I've heard of some experimental repair/transplant surgeries being done in a hospital near San Francisco using cadaver spinal chords as a doner. Mixed results so far from what I can hear, but still a step in the right direction. Hope Blair recovers well, and maybe with his being well known, something good in the medical community could come of this eventually. I've been a Blair Morgan fan since the first time I saw him tear up the rest of the competition on a AC on tv, this is sad news.

Ya these day's his name is synonymous with Ski Doo, but I remember how controversial it was when he switched from cat. He gave the official reason as "I thnk the rev offers the best package." and there was all kinds of jokes about the best feature being the belly pan full of cash.

Do you have any updates on his condition ?

no they're keeping hush hush. Terri said she'd let us know when he was back home but that's more than a month ago, hard to say if it's happened or not. I'm not getting too close to it tho, I don't wanna be ringing their phone checking up, I'm sure there's enough of that going on.

ya it is. I'm glad tho that this time around (been thru this once with Rainey) I have a chance to buy the swag, go to the events, keep up the support.

It sucks but reality is he was never gonna retire, this is the only way he'll to spend the time home with his kids and not going out to crush people all the time. He's still my hero.

some vintage Blair.

I guess he was out riding with his brother on New Years day, it's conclusive now that the paralysis is permanent so he's been working on ways to ride without his legs. Still has some lateral movement in the chest and I guess it's enough for him to get around with.

ya I think his racing days are over but he seems to be happy and recovering. Just a shitty way to be forced into retirement.
