Actually looks better in person than in all the internet pics I have seen so far. :thumbup

Unfortunately, it rained on Friday and there was a lot of mud.

Hideous. I'm getting a 1098 instead...

You can do that, but you will still get smoked by an ugly 09R1. :poke :lol

thanks for the pics.

here's my thoughts;

- The exhaust, with all the heat guards, covers, and joints, looks like it would weigh a TON. The sooner Akra comes out with a full system, the better. Bet it cleans up the tail area VERY nicely (judging by the p-chops out there). Love to see someone come out with a kit that has an R6 stubby side exhaust and a replacement tail section shaped like the M1....should have been what they did!!!

- Still irks me that they're using caliper bolt spacing that jives with NOTHING aftermarket. what happened to 108mm? i understand that the OEM calipers are strong, but it leaves no option for something different. boo.

- First thing I ever noticed about the 09 was the horrible placing of the Yamaha decal on the lower. Straight along the bottom of the fairing would have looked MUCH nicer, IMHO.

Other than that, I like the new bike. Especially love how it sounds. :sneaky

The 09 looks ok... the big fat cans have to go.
graves or Akropovic will make it looks nice and will improve on the the great noise it makes with stock exhaust.

I don't really know what the hell they have done with the lights and air intakes ... ???
don't know what they hope to gain and just looks crap !

I think they got it pretty right with the 07/08 looks just bolt a new motor into that i guess the motor fits into a new frame on the 09 but i am sure they could of kept the 07/08 looks.

I think the looks can only get worse from here i mean Yamaha have done so many good designs already and i can understand that new motors / frames will mean the outside looks will have to change to some degree but yamaha seem to have a thing going on to make each model look different from the last model which i think is a real waste of time because i am pretty sure most people on the planet earth have a healthy respect for the R1's looks and performance so lets hope yamaha don't make them so ugly we all go out and buy suzuki instead !

I like the looks of it, I did like the 07-08 headlights better, but know these projectors should function better.

I love R1's but I have to buy a 06-07 CBR1000RR first. Although if I got a good deal on a 07 or 08 R1 i'd probably bite when the time comes.

All oem exhaust cans are ugly since 2008 for any sportbike. have you seen kawasaki's?

gotta agree...looking at bogies gif through the years the latest one looks like someone took a club to the rear end and smooshed it in making it shorter and fatter.

Almost exactly my thought. Luckily I've got an R6 I can play around with for the side pipe....... Have a few friends that work in fibreglass.

Also can paint, and have a vinyl cutter, so will work on that personal design........

Can't wait for it to finally arrive here in Australia..... May 09 :(
