I have had 2 people say there were some issues logging into the forum. I have tested this several times with both IE and FF and I can't duplicate it, I have tried several different computers and also internet providers.

Anyone else having any trouble?

The only problem I had a few times was that the list of smileys were unaccessible, but it seems to work now.

:lmao ya I think it was a user error or a network issue... but I just wanted to make sure. I'm a little anal about this crap and want to make sure there are no issues. :)

The smilie thing was my error if this was a couple of days ago and that was corrected... :)

Not sure I want to put myself on the same level as Nubbles.... But, occasionally, I run into issues logging in. Enter username and password, and a screen appears welcoming me to the forum, but then it takes me right back to the login page with empty fields.

It's done it a few times, where even refreshing the page doesn't work. But, if I click on a thread link on the right, it takes me to the thread and shows that I'm logged into the forum.

fjorn, are you logging in from the portal page's top-left boxes, or the forum's top-right boxes? Cause I remember this was an issue with the portal on another forum...

Upper left typically.

This seems to be the only forum that does it though.

As I remembered, it's a cookie setting issue or something like that, I remembered seeing the same problem on clubracer.net, but I think R1Lover knows how to fix this. I just forwarded this post to him.

It seems like it's a cookie setting as well, but it does it in both IE and Firefox. I experience it more in FF though, as that's what I use primarily.

I have seen this too now that the problem has been described in more detail. It happens on the Mod page as well the normal forum, what I found was that I was already logged in, and when you are it just keeps returning you to the sign in screen. I cant make it happen every time, but you can replicate it by opening a tab with the mod screen, then try opening another tab with the mod screen...on the second tab everytime you log in it returns you to the sign in screen. Its only happened once to me on the actual forum portal.

FJ, when it happens, try closing firefox, and then checking your running process's to see if there is a hidden FireFox window still open. I have had a problem with this latest update of Firefox where when I minimize a second window, it disappears off the task bar. If you have a session open you cant see and it is logged into the forum it would go along with what I described above.

clear your cookies and cache, make sure you are using http://www.yamha-forum.net and not http://yamaha-forum.net

then try again.. also click remember me.

let me know.

Fjorn -- pay attention to the URL in your browser's address bar if/when it does that next. I'm betting it'll change either from www.yamaha-forum.net to yamaha-forum.net or the other way around. This kind of redirection will cause session cookie issues, since they are generally domain-specific.

Actually....nevermind. :) Just came up with some URL rewrite rules for the webserver that should take care of that issue -- forces the URL to redirect to www.yamaha-forum.net if it's called as yamaha-forum.net. This should squash that problem.

Be sure to post up if you have any further problems, though.

First time logging in since this morning. My bookmark is set for http://yamaha-forum.net so I'll keep an eye on it. Didn't have any issues this time, though it wasn't occuring all the time before either.

R1Lover

Yes then that would have been the issue, when you log into the site without the www then after you log in it will redirect you to the main page, that re-direct uses a www. so therefore the cookie is different.

That explains it and make perfect sense, shagz has since added some code to re-direct everything to the http://www.yamaha-forum.net you can test this and see it in action here.

http://yamaha-forum.net click that link and watch it take you to www.

I'm lazy, and rarely use the www tag anymore as most sites redirect to it. If a company only has their webserver as www.domain.com I tend to gripe about their lack of business sense.

Thanks for fixing it though. :thumbup
