it can be pretty hardcore. I'm nowwhere near their caliber, but I've run a bit of snowcross and done a lot of backcountry shit in the past.

Junior 08-16-2008, 08:46 AM I used to wait with baited breath all summer for it to start to snow, counting the days. Now with bikes I care less but I still look forward to it. Altho I look forward to it leaving so I can get the bikes out too.
HornetR1 08-16-2008, 08:54 AM :lol yeah in the middle or near the end of winter your wishing the damn snow would finally go for good!! :lol this year has been wierd though... :shrug maybe it will be a good winter!! :)
Junior 08-16-2008, 11:02 AM I'm hoping so, powder to carve and finally some time off to do it in.
Ofcourse I might be selling a bunch of sled shit to get a racebike, but what can ya do. It won't be the snows fault that I'm a fucking idiot.
donniedarko 08-17-2008, 04:12 PM Funny I used to ride with some of those guys. They are not scared, crazy bastids puts it lightly. I was standing right there when a good friend Jim Rippey did the first back on a sled at Mt. Rose, Lake Tahoe. Funny seeing Chris Brown in there too, he is a super talented on a snowboard.
I miss having my sleds... :(

No shit, I remember Rippey making that jump like it was yesterday. That was a BIG deal.
Don't suppose you know Chris Burandt at all?
donniedarko 08-17-2008, 04:34 PM Sounds familiar, saying that not really though.
There were only 3 of us, Jim, filmer Rich van Every and myself.
I hung out with Jay Moriarity a bit... cool guy.
The riding they are doing is mental. I stepped to some solid lines but nothing like that. Props to those guys.
Sidenote- It was sledding that got me into Sport Bikes. I needed to be sledding in the summer. Couldnt get into MX, never got hyped on it, Sport bikes I did. Mountain sledding is super intense, and I REALLY miss it.
Junior 08-17-2008, 07:29 PM that's funny that's a big part of how I got involved in it aswell.
Nothing is the same as mountain riding tho.
you wheren't bychance the guy that caught the sled when it got away where you?
donniedarko 08-17-2008, 07:48 PM I was all around, north of Rich, he tried for a while. I was on my sled boondoggin around. His sled got so beat to shit that day.
Interesting story- So Jim found Christ some months before hand. He was building to do this. He had his whole church in Truckee would pray for him and the end of every sermon.
for a couple months. Made the whole deal kind of intense.
If any knows about Jim he had the biggest selling pro model for Burton Snowboards until recently. Had no fear, and scary calm when he would charge. After 2-3 weeks of skydiving he started Base jumping, I really had and have a lot of respect for him. Dood was fvcking nuts.
So fast fwd to the late spring, we were out at Prossor moto'ing. Underlying deal Jim wanted to be the first guy to do a back on a sled and moto. His church did the same thing, and he got himself hyped to do it. That day he tried... Unlike the sled success he picked a dirt tranny that was way to flat, no kick or wu as we used to say; and we all knew it but Jim. He ended up braking his hip, and his arm. He jacked himself so bad kinda of ended his career in Snowboarding and everything else. Took 2 years til I went riding with him again.
Junior 08-17-2008, 08:01 PM yea I knew he was mr.snowboard before that and that he'd found god. To be honest the religious aspect always put me off him a bit.
Something majestic about throwing around a machine with that little weights and that much power, it's the ultimate in ridiculous amounts of brute force controlled and contained and controlled.

Well Im Chriatian and I get it, but he was Christanese. That really ruined his deal being so hardcore. Burton tripped on it, I think Oakley did too. I did and Im Christian... :lol
Everytime I see the guy, he'd grab my hand and want to start praying.
To each his own.
He's going to school to become a pastor.
Your right, I was fascinated with sleds on tranny, and trying whips. The commitment is 100% or your done. Mtn sledding, dealing with fall line and deep snow, or buttercup, or windblown was incredible.
I'll be doing it again
Junior 08-17-2008, 08:22 PM yes sir, hopefully I'll be into a summit 800 in the next year or 2. Start making missions to the mountains rather than flatlanding it.
That's kinda messed up with the grabbing the hand and wanting to pray. But seriously it's been clear for a looooong time that his brain doesn't work in quite the same way as the rest of us.
donniedarko 08-17-2008, 08:25 PM I'm jealous...:(
...and you totally right :lol
113liner 07-13-2010, 06:44 PM oh man that makes me miss sledding..
