Been riding a 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600 until my son-in-law gave me an '86 FZ750 that's been stored for a while. After cleaning out the varnish in the carb's and fixing the dent in the tank I zoomed off into never never land. Sold the Bandit. Recently overreved the motor, split an intake cam follower, so it's in pieces. Faithful son-in-law sent me another motor he's had for quite a while, later model judging by the added oil cooler and one pickup coil instead of two. Rust in the cylinder bores so to get it running while summer is still here using the head on my block.
Here's a question for you experts: while my motor has the conventional letter/number pattern on the case, this second motor has just "1FM" with nothing else. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks, glad to be aboard.

Welcome to the site, the 1FN is the Euro spec engine. It should still have a number after the 1FN but maybe it was removed ?

has it been restamped? older yamahas over here with replacement cases came blank (no numbers) so would be restamped by the dealer.
ps. welcome

yamaha has a free website that makes it easy to compare models and look up parts I think they made the fzr750 until 88.
also -there was a oil cooler on the 87fzr750.

Is it possible all the cases come from the factory to the usa with 1fm (pre-stamped)when you order replacement cases and a blank space after them so you can transfer the remaining numbers off the old cases . for example if the cases need replaced on a motor. that is kind of the way I remember it from the old micro-fich days.

:welcome to the forum! :thumbup
I want to thank all for the reply's. This "1FM" case definitely has not been touched. Could be a Euro spec motor and it sounds very plausible that it has had a replacement clutch cover with secondary numbers to be added. I'll follow-up on the yamaha link (thanks macattack) and will repost should I learn anything. Thanks again, great job.
