: another old fart trades in his r1 on an fjr
vcyclenut 05-22-2008, 06:23 PM picked up this 06 with 3800 miles on it, just got it yesterday, so far i love it , going on a weekend trip up to north west georgia in two weeks so i really will get an idea then. I wanted something sporty enough but with hard bags so i could use it more. As my r1 got nicer and nicer i used it less and less because i was afraid something would happen to it or it would get stolen. i moved away from my riding roots which is to ride every chance i get. Between this and the rs125 race bike i got the best of both worlds.:scooter
took it to work today, totaly awesome. Brought my work stuff in the bags. got to work put my helmet in the bags. very convenient. The thing has boat loads of torque even with a passanger and handles very well. nothing like a little ride after work to decompress.:D

R1 MASTER 05-22-2008, 08:39 PM Congrats man! I don't know how you guys give up your R1's, but I wish you the best with your new bike.
Ride safe.
riley42 05-22-2008, 09:20 PM :stupid I can't imagine not having the One. I could deal with a sport tourer for a 2nd bike, but giving up the One :bangdesk. Congrats, I bet you two light up the FJR section now that Bogie will have someone to talk to :lol
syncitizen 05-22-2008, 09:24 PM Good lookin' ride! Enjoy it old man.
shagzomatic 05-22-2008, 09:25 PM :cool
Bogie 05-23-2008, 03:24 AM Sweet!! Your gonna love it!! :fact
For those who can't understand why giving up the R1 is possible they obviously don't do very much 2up riding. :fact
And by 2up I mean more than a 50 mile trip!! :lol :lol
For me it is about what most of my riding was becoming and the fact that I can't afford two bikes right now so the choice had to be made.
Do you keep the R1 and ride once and awhile solo with others for fun and try to ride a buttload of 2up miles and be uncomfortable for both rider and passenger??
Or do you sell the R1, buy the bike that is going to meet the meeds of the majority of your ridng??
I chose the second one obviously and have no regrets.:no
When this bike is paid for then I will look at what is available for current sportbikes and buy another. :thumbup
Bogie 05-23-2008, 03:29 AM PS...checkout this place..... www.fjrforum.com (http://www.fjrforum.com)
Lots of good info on the bike there!! :fact :thumbup
riley42 05-23-2008, 05:10 AM Well I hardly if ever have a passenger, and pretty much knew that when I bought the R1. So worried about a passenger's comfort never comes to mind when I'm out riding. I'd like to buy a second more comfortable bike to try and get the Mrs. more interested in riding, but she said don't waste the money, not that I have it anyway.
R1 MASTER 05-23-2008, 05:24 AM :no I have to go get some bigger boots cause something is getting deep in here. :lol
Ride safe.

I used to say the same thing, but once you start doing 300-400 mile rides in a day....things start to hurt. I love my 06 R1 and I'm sure I'm gonna love it even more once I do a trackday with it next week:thumbup, but I see myself getting back into the 3-400 mile days...and the One makes you feel that ride for a couple days after
R1 MASTER 05-23-2008, 07:33 PM My panties are in a wad, and I just can't help that I'm full of shit :fact :lmao
I'm sorry and from now on, I will not edit other peoples post, I will not edit other peoples post. I will not edit other peoples post. I will not edit other peoples post. I will not edit other peoples post.

R1Lover 05-23-2008, 07:52 PM As we get older things start to hurt after a couple hours... On a cruiser it's 3-4 before things start aching :lmao
I will have an fjr someday too.... but for now I have a good combo with the V-Rod and the R1
:)
fjorn 05-24-2008, 08:12 AM Nice bike. :thumbup
As to giving up the R1, it's not as difficult as one may think. I said I'd never sell mine, but I did back in Sept. of '06. In fact, I got off the roadways all together and switched to dirt. Now, I have three dirt bikes that I can take out with the family and enjoy time with them while sharing my passion for bikes.
Although, I just bought a motard setup for my YZ450F so I can do trackdays on smaller technical tracks with friends of mine. I won't make this one street legal, but I will be buying and converting a couple of WR450F's into street legal machines for a planned trip in two years.

R6Flyby 05-25-2008, 10:30 AM I have been thinking on what my next bike was going to be. At first I was thinking the R1, but I am thinking long rides and wasn't up for the pain. FZ1 was the second choice and still is in the run for first, and now you guys have me looking at the FJR's :drool and now I second guessing on what I really want..:gtfout
I want my R6 back:(
Bogie 05-25-2008, 02:13 PM You'll love the FJR!! :fact
Your friends may get there panties in a wad over it though!! :fact :lol :sing

Especially when you sell the R1 for less than blue book with thousands of dollars worth of mods on it. :fact
vcyclenut 05-25-2008, 06:29 PM lol, guys
i just wanted something i could ride every day, not fun leaving my 20k plus r1 outside work all day. The bags are soo nice and my new little race bike i took the maiden voyage on this weekend aint to bad either. So I traded one unreal sweet r1 for an awesome race bike and an awsome street bike that i can actually ride all the time. I have no remorse at all.

R1 MASTER 05-25-2008, 06:58 PM Your friends won't get their panties in a wad just because you purchase an FJR as long as your keep your word when you say your going to do something.:fact
Like say call on Saturday night when they say their going to, or come over and help you put on an exhaust system when your injured like they said they would, or come over to help out after you just had a major surgery like they said they would, or cancel previously planned engagements like trips, schools, trackdays, races. :sing :sing :lol
Now personally I don't know anyone that would do stuff like this because you wouldn't do that to one of your buddies, but I'm just sayin :mock :mock :lol
Ride safe.

Bogie 05-27-2008, 06:14 AM :poke Rebuttal? Anyone? :pop
Yup....I had financial issues for a bit, I have a job that eats up alot of my time.
I hate that my job makes me cancel things at the last minute. Like this weekend when I had two people on the same route leave a voicemail that they quit effective immediatly. :fact
I can't afford to just up and quit my job. :fact
I wish I had the freetime and flexibility in my schedule that some people do. I wish I didn't have to drop everything at a moments notice for job but I do. :bangdesk
Now I get to work alot of weekends for the next couple months and get to do alot of on-call in the evenings for awhile to come. :computer
Guess I shouldn't even mention that I probably can't ride this Saturday now huh?? :dunno
Wicked1 05-27-2008, 06:17 AM ooga booga

And then I get fired.......you paying my bills?:poke
riley42 05-27-2008, 06:44 AM I definitely know where your coming from with the job Bri. I don't think you should consider most of this ribbing as insults but more as people don't want you to fade away into FJR land and not hang around here anymore. Least that's where I'm coming from. That and you should have sold me your rims!!!!!!!!

Stress at the work place, stress from working too much, and the strains on your personal life (especially when in a relationship) isn't worth the pay when you find yourself in the ER because you're having a heart attack.
Ask me how I know this...
Bogie 05-29-2008, 02:00 AM My life is good other than work right now. :thumbup
