hi, im realllly new to this bike and am not sure hot to use the hot start lever that is under the clutch, this bike has been extremely difficult to start, especially when its hot.
Can anyone give me directions as to starting the engine when sitting from regular 65 degree F day and starting it when engine is hot? I'm just finding this starting overwhelmingly difficult for a brand new bike.
Also as you may have been able to tell, I have no users manual, so I don't know what kind of oil to put in the crankcase, I have some nice Royal Purple 10W-40, any problems with that?
Thanks so much for any help :) -john

The '07 250F's are a great bike. Excellent choice. :thumbup
The hot start lever comes into play when you are starting it after it's been run for a while. Simply pull on the hot start lever and kick the bike over to start. Pretty simple really. Make sure that the choke is off when doing so, and don't turn the throttle when doing so. Although, you may also need to slightly open the throttle a little.
I had problems with my '07 YZ450F last summer as well on hot start. Was really a bear to get going. The problem was that it was running very lean. Installing a JD Jetting kit (about $80) helped out immensely! As did installing a knurled fuel screw for easy minor adjustments. About $100 and the bike really opens up nicely.
BTW, regarding the oil, I'm not familiar with what you listed. I've found the Yamalube semi synthetic to meet my needs over the past few years so long as I change oil on schedule.

Thanks man, that helps, I got it running, though the mixture is pretty off... I am currently just running it and turning the mixture screw (or what I assume is the mixture screw) on the bottom of the carb that has the spring on the other side of it. How do I know when to stop turning the screw? I am really afraid of putting it too lean and burning up, because I have heard from friends that the engine sounds awesome and runs pretty good when lean but it can burn it up. Is there a proper way to adjust the mixture?
Thanks again!

The mixture screw is on the absolute bottom of the carb, and you need a very short flathead screwdriver to adjust it. Typically, you should never go out more than 2 turns from full in. If so, you need to rejet the bike.
If the one you're adjusting is a knob that faces to the left side of the bike, that's the idle speed adjuster. It adjusts the opening of the throttle plate at idle.
Honestly, spend the $100 and buy the JD Jetting kit and a fuel mixture screw. You'll really alleviate a lot of your problems. In fact, I'll be doing that on my son's bike in the next day or so. Or rather, he will be as I'm teaching him how to work on his bike.
