: I just bought a R1 2008
ant0879 03-23-2008, 08:13 AM I just bought a r1 2008 and i love it. My first yamaha and i tell you that i have been missing out. I did have a ninja 636. My r1 though wants to be ridin fast and loves turns. What is the first thing i should focus on doing to my r1 as far as upgrades?
R1Lover 03-23-2008, 08:33 AM Awesome.... post up some pics. :)
There are a few good threads about modding the R1 here... :) any questions on it just ask...
Firehawk 03-23-2008, 08:40 AM better tires, tank protector, levers, frame sliders....anything you want to do!
congrats and welcome to the forum! :thumbup
syncitizen 03-23-2008, 09:27 AM Best upgrade for any bike.... Upgrade your skill set. Take rider classes/trackschools. :fact
I know you meant bike mods tho... browse the forums and scope out other member bikes and pick and choose the mods you like best and steal the ideas, at least thats what I do. :crash
...and yes, post up pics of your bike. You can even start your own thread and keep kind of a photo journal of your bikes process.
Bogie 03-23-2008, 01:44 PM :thumbup Welcome to YFN :beer
babyit11 03-23-2008, 01:45 PM welcome to the forum
if you don't have frame sliders already, that should be your 1st mod.
after that try to upgrade the brakes and tires:fact
R1 MASTER 03-23-2008, 03:42 PM :hello :welcome to YFN
Ride safe.
Snair 03-23-2008, 06:32 PM welcome
First thing is Frame Sliders IMO... Protect what you just bought.. :yes
blur1 03-24-2008, 04:28 AM first thing= titanium axles!:lmao
riley42 03-24-2008, 05:13 AM So where's the DAMN PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :warning
I'd get, levers, a windscreen, exhaust and PC3. Cuz those are the parts we ALL buy. Frame sliders are great, but I have a low insurance deductible, so it all works out.
Wicked1 03-24-2008, 05:59 PM -1 front sprocket or -2 if you really dont need the top end...
we want pics :warning
gcain 03-25-2008, 04:23 AM Congrats on your purchase. You won't be disappointed!
How much you want to spend really directs what you buy.... There are guys here that could easily justify $20,000 worth of mods were the money available. I know I could :sneaky Just ask BluR1 about his bike... the only thing stock are the thermo fans.
My opinion...
o Track days!
o -1 Front Sprocket (real cheap)
o Decent Tyres
o Power Commander
o Slip on Exhaust
o Dialed in suspension
o More track days
Everything else can really wait, the bike will out ride you any day at this stage, so go a few cosmetics to customise it a little.
o Pazzo Levers
o New Screen
o Fender Eliminator
o Flush mount Indicators
o Carbon Fiber (be careful, this is addictive and expensive!)
o Rearsets (could be in the performance category I guess)
Once you want more... And have decided how you ride the bike (eg, Crackday Addict, Cafe Racer etc)
o Turbo
o Nitros
o General engine work (Port & Polish etc.)
Man, how much you wanna spend? :P
J Dollaz 03-25-2008, 07:07 AM Congrats!
Post some pix...
06R14ME 03-25-2008, 10:06 AM :welcome to YAMAHA! And your newest addidiction's: riding, moding, riding, and moding, ect! This trend tends to consume MANY fellow brothers and sisters on this site, as I am sure you have seen so far!:fact
I agree with all above, start with: frame sliders, fender eliminator, -1 in front and if you really like the torque and might want to get involved in trackdays +2 in the rear sprocket! Just my .02!
That is my set up and I love it so far and am not compromising too much in the top end. :thumbup
HAVE FUN AND POST OFTEN, START WITH PICS OF THE BIKE!!!
HornetR1 03-26-2008, 05:38 AM :welcome congrats on the new bike man!! be safe! :thumbup
Firehawk 03-26-2008, 09:14 PM Ya know....maybe we otta put together a "first mods" thread, and make it a sticky. I'm sure this won't be the first time it gets asked.

:+1 Sounds like a great idea -- seems like I've seen this question at least a few times already. :)
R1Lover 03-27-2008, 06:54 PM I agree... but was wondering how to format it as everyone's budget is different.
Any ideas?
Wicked1 03-27-2008, 07:51 PM i think that thread should included 3 different stages of mods...
first stage...mainly appearance oriented, maybe some slip-ons
second stage... rearsets, rotors, gearindicators, full exhaust etc
third stage... wheels, suspension bits, etc
Firehawk 03-28-2008, 01:21 AM I agree... but was wondering how to format it as everyone's budget is different.
Any ideas?
No matter what people's budgets are, there still a basic list of beginner mods that both rich and poor should do first :)
Bogie 03-28-2008, 03:19 AM I agree... but was wondering how to format it as everyone's budget is different.
Any ideas?
Just post up the list to my bike as they were all done within less than a year! :fact :lol :lol
