I'm lookig to pick up a track bike and I've seen some pretty good prices on several "yzf-600r"s. But the yzf-r6 still comand a bit more price tag. Obviously there are diffrences in the skins, and seat, but what about the suspension, brakes, and engines? Anybody able to help me shed some light on this before I purchase one would be really appreciated.

any r6 is better than the 600r...the 600r is heavy, extrtemely outdated, underpowered, and lacks sufficent brakes compared to the r6. basically the r6 replaced the 600r. yamaha then started to sell the 600r as its "street bike"

you basically have unlimited mods available for the r6 as well

They looked a bit heavy just from pics i've seen. Didn't care for the large seat or the skins. Looks like it's a R6 or another R1 for me then.

Look at the R6s

Cheaper than a new R6 but much better performance than the 600r.:fact

The YZF600R is a nice street bike but it's no racer at all.... the R6 is a great track bike as I'm sure you know.

the r6s is a good bike too...the r6s was the 03-04 r6 in 05 they added radial mounted brakes and a few other trick bits but was basically the same thing...in 06 yamaha introduced the new r6 which was a track weapon and was completely different everywhere...yamaha then decided to take the previous r6 and relable it the r6s and sell it as its street bike. oh and when they turned it into the r6s the bike lost its radial brakes and such so basically an r6s is an 03-04 r6:fact excllent bike

You're partially right. There were changes with motor, geometry, fuel injection system on the 05 R6 along with Inverted forks and radial mounted brakes. The current R6S is actually an 05 R6 less the two last items. All of the other 05 R6 upgrades remain on the R6S. :thumbup

I have a 2000 600r its a great bike i love it! it has enough power to smack the rider in the face with the handle bars from just a simple hard accel in 1st gear, and more than of a powerful front brake to smack the ryder in the back of the head with the taillight. So becarfule!

It has a great 0-60 too around 2 1/2 seconds or better depending on the skill (i sense a under 2 sec 0-60 under a skilled ryder which i am not) and its power band is mainly between 7-8 rpms redline begins at 13 rpms

downsides are its mobility it pretty much wants to go straight crosswinds are non exsistant on this bike but if your looking for a track bike i say get something that you can get your knee down on this wouldnt do very well on a course but its still fun!

hope that helps

Hello everyone.
This thread popped up on the 600r forums and I thought I'll pop in real quick.

The 600r can be made to go fast on the track...and that's a '95 no less.
Overall I agree though the R6 is better package for the track and the 600r is better on the street.

I rode with Ahwin quite a bit before he passed. He could really toss that bike around, but it was far from stock....I have a few pics of the 2 of us riding at Putnam park around here somewhere....

Not great pics, but great memories.

I kinda enjoy this one, I am giving chase to a guy who is local to me and not quite as fast as he thought.....

Good evening! New to the forums but wanted to pass along my experience. I bought a 2007 600R in April last year to "learn" on. Having never ridden a motorcycle before, I'm glad I got it instead of an R6. The 600R seems to be a little more forgiving to rider error. Now, having said that, I am wanting to upgrade, got the speed addiction. The 600R will hit 150+ but is not the quickest to get there. It has plenty for me but for a track bike, nah, unless you spend the cash to upgrade a few things here and there.
