Hi guys (and gals) :bow,
I want to replace the stock clear screen with a dark tinted one, but I'm having trouble finding one that fits EXACTLY like the stock one. I did try a Puig screen last summer, but took it back because there was a big difference between the two. The Puig wasn't built up around the windscreen fairing (sorry if not correct terminology) and it left me with a crack between the screen and the plastic, looking very ugly, and possibly getting crud in it after time. Has anyone found one with a thicker bevel making a perfectly flush joint?

I have the puig and how you install it does make a difference.. Mine looks pretty good imo, but it's not perfect for sure.

I thought maybe I had installed it wrong, but I took it to the dealer and they said that's how it fits. Yamaha made one with thicker edges, I don't see why aftermarket companies wouldn't. Just seems sorta dumb to me.

The puig if you push it down tight when you install it does take out some/most of the gap, but there is still more space than there should be if they had done the mold correctly to begin with. While it is acceptable enough to me where I will probably never change it unless it gets damaged, it certainly isnt perfect.

have you looked at zeroGravity, or hotbodies screens to see if the fitment is the same? :)

So far the only one I've seen that fits right is the Yamaha Accessories tinted screen, but I dont really wanna pay $175.

+1 with the zero gravity or hotbodies idea...
i got the gytr screen but didnt have to pay for it...came with the bike:cool
you could always paint the backside of the stock screen, ive done this before and was happy with the results...ends up looking pretty darned good but you cant see thru it at all...well i cant see thru my tinted screen at all either tho:crash

Try Zero Gravity. The Puig screens suck on the 07-08 R1's.:fact They were in such a hurry to get them out before thier competition that they did not make them correctly.

My story is actually the opposite. Before installing my puid black screen I looked at the stock one and noticed a rather large gap, larger than syncitizen's picture, but when I put my puig on the gap is gone, only maybe half a mm gap...

The problems is here.

Some people are annoyed by the improper fit and others are not. It just depends on how picky people are about their bike.

My Puig double bubble fits perfectly and got rid of the rattle I heard from the stock screen..
