: To GP Shift or not to GP Shift?
gcain 01-08-2008, 01:49 AM My order from MotoMummy should get to me within the next week or so and part of that order is some Gilles VCR rearsets.
Just wondering how many of you ride GP Shift as this is why I got them but after going for a ride today I'm not so sure.
I relise they can do both, just wondering pros & cons etc.
Junior 01-08-2008, 03:33 AM whatever you're fastest, smoothest, most comfortable with.
the odds of you needing to go for another gear while pitched into a left hander at 100mph at full lean aren't too high, so just go with what you're smoothest with.
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 04:58 AM after i made the switch to gp shift i found it alot easier to switch gears IMO
J Dollaz 01-08-2008, 05:28 AM Nevr tried it,
I would like to try it though!
I Can see it really helping, shifting up through the gears...(Pressing down)
But Downshifting, by (Lifting up the shifter) seems like i'll never get used too!
I'll Stick with Stock! $.02
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 05:58 AM once you make the switch youll think bikes that dont have gp shift are fuggin wierd:fact its easy to get used to
J Dollaz 01-08-2008, 06:15 AM once you make the switch youll think bikes that dont have gp shift are fuggin wierd:fact its easy to get used to
I'd have to Test it out Sometime! ;)
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 06:38 AM oh and when rideing wheelies its easier to grab the next gear:fact
that reminds me I need to remember to look for rearsets for the F4i stuntbike im working on:sneaky
J Dollaz 01-08-2008, 06:44 AM Nice , i want an F4i this season Sooo bad!
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 06:50 AM defintely a stunters dream:fact
my buddy crashed his brothers about 3 weeks after he bought it, so he had to buy it from him...damn expensive way to come upon a stunt bike. ive put alot of time into getting it into stunt mode and some of my own cash as well so now I am partial owner of this contraption:lol we're gonna beat the hell outta this thing:lol we already started buying replacement parts that i figured we would end up needing after a few drops
:threadjacked sorry
J Dollaz 01-08-2008, 07:24 AM Set it up Right once,
and you wont need many Replacements at all!
Get a Stunt Nose, (Acerbis) No Front faring, Not Bulky headlights!
Full Stunt cage(dont Run Side farings either), and Subframe Cage, Swing arm spools/Sliders....
You got the idea, im sure you know what your doin!
Dont forget a Hand Brake...$.02
Sorry for the Thread jackage!
R1Lover 01-08-2008, 07:43 AM I tried it for a week or two, I could not get used to it as I go back and forth between bike and I was getting confused.... lol Just didn't feel good enough to me to feel good about shifting in a wheelie and not going the wrong way at 100mph... :lmao
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 07:52 AM pussy:crash

KWComp 01-08-2008, 09:17 AM I tried it for a week or two, I could not get used to it as I go back and forth between bike and I was getting confused.... lol Just didn't feel good enough to me to feel good about shifting in a wheelie and not going the wrong way at 100mph... :lmao
I take it your V-Rod doesnt have floor boards then.......you want to talk about some jacked up shit, try upshifting with your Heel.
JakeR1 01-08-2008, 09:20 AM I like GP shift. You should at least give it a shot. For me, now that I'm used to it, it is way more comfortable. I switched in the middle of a trackday, and only missed a couple shifts. No big deal.
Wicked1 01-08-2008, 09:30 AM I take it your V-Rod doesnt have floor boards then.......you want to talk about some jacked up shit, try upshifting with your Heel.

If it has running boards, it's not a bike.
It's a small car. :mrgreen
syncitizen 01-08-2008, 09:39 AM I've thought of trying gp shift. But after 26 years of riding in one shift pattern I would fear mis-shifting at an inopportune moment . I am a serious creature of habit.
R1 MASTER 01-08-2008, 10:02 AM Just personal preference. Try it GP for a month and see how it feels. :yes
Ride safe.

:lmao that's the problem, I can't reverse shift that one... :lmao and ya no floor boards either..
shagzomatic 01-08-2008, 10:47 AM :lmao that's the problem, I can't reverse shift that one... :lmao

Thanks for your input guys, even to the thread jackers since thats what im doing next.
I'm going to run GP shift for a month no matter how much I hate it just so I can get used to it and see if it makes sense in the end.
Might end up going back but I think I'll stick with it in the end.
valerossi 01-08-2008, 05:08 PM Yep, in the spring it will be for sale... :) wanna buy it? :crash

silly dirt toys....:lmao
can't make a dirt bike GP shift :mrgreen
shift lever is attached directly to the shift shaft. no way to rig it backwards.

BlackFZR 01-10-2008, 08:28 PM GP Shift... 2 reasons... racing... and the second is not many people here have it like that, and I use that as a bit of excuse not to lend my bike out to others...... its all mine I tells ya!
gcain 01-10-2008, 08:32 PM and I use that as a bit of excuse not to lend my bike out to others...... its all mine I tells ya!
Haha, great reason!
Speaking of odd gearing, I was riding behind an old BSA(P?) bike the other day, they have the gears on the right hand side!
Nearly fell of watching him ride, it was confusing the hell out of me! :lol :rofl
gsxcorey 01-10-2008, 08:41 PM After a few weeks most who go reverse shifting will never go back...it's awesome! First mod I do to any bike now.
Wicked1 01-11-2008, 04:25 AM old harleys had the shifter on the right side as well...
fjorn 01-11-2008, 04:37 AM Not to mention hand shifters...

Wicked1 01-11-2008, 07:56 AM its pretty hardcore...i havent had the oportunity to try it out yet...that damn bike pulls pretty hard down low and with only one had on the bars kinda freaks me out:lol ive rode the other two harleys my dad currently has but maybe this summer ill giver a shot:sneaky
