just curious i have a red and white 02 r1 and have been throwing around the idea of either an r7 tail or an an 98-01 carbon tail similer to what firehawk has on his amazing r71 also on the stock red upper having a white stripe painted around the outside of the windscreen like the champions edition upper in 01 or the 98 red and white which had a red strip on the white upper...i have some things planned for it im having the swingarm braced and re powdercoated and am currently looking for a brake and wheel upgrade before i dive into the motor sometime this summer...thanks alot in advance:moped

Throw up some high quality photos so those who are good at it could do something in their spare time.

IMO, don't break the lines up on the 02. That body style is phenomenal, and to soften the rear up with an earlier year tail doesn't do it justice(IMO).

How's your suspension on the bike? Has it been redone since you've owned it? If not, I'd get that done before any other work. The bike is 6 years old now, and the suspension is pretty well used by now. Next would be brakes: stainless steel lines, and high quality pads. Bled correctly, and you'll be stopping in no time.

i have an ohlins rear shock that has been serviced recently im torn between buying some 04 newer forks and having them revalved and resprung or revalve and re springing my own forks, i sold my hyperpro steering damper to a friend and fitted and ohlins damper i added fren tubo brake lines silkolene brake fluid and some ferodo brake pads just, highly recomended by the way, its got some other stuff on there too im sure i forgot the 02 was the bike i have always wanted so modding it is like crack to me lol

That's interesting.....never heard of someone going backwards in years with bodywork! I've never been a fan of the 02-03 lines, but I'd be interested to see what the combo looks like. If you try it, definitely go with the 00-01 tail....a bit more angular than the 98-99.

Would be interesting to see if the 98-01 tail would even fit on an 02. I'm sure the mount holes changed a bit because of the removable subframe. If you do decide to give it a try, I'd buy a rashed-up, cheap plastic OEM tail off eBay, and do a test-fitting. My carbon tail (Sebimoto from Yoyodyne) was over $400, so it would be good to know if it fits before throwing the cash down.

Good luck!

yeah i would definatly use a mock up tail but i have a friend www.wwr-designs.com who is makes alot of carbon parts along with some great paint work so making it fit really isn't an issue i have dabbled with bodywork, james at wwr showing me some of the basics, but i wouldn't call myself an expert so it should get interesting
