: need some opinions please!
gixxerfrank 11-25-2007, 02:28 PM i have been riding on the street since i have been 16 and lately in the land of the helmet mohawk, tampa florida, the police have really been cracking down on riders, the weird thing about it is a few years ago i would have blamed the police for whats going on but now i dont, alot of squids crashing and getting hurt, "stunntaz" during rush hour, and many illegal activitys that go with it such as stolen bikes property ect..im thinking of making my 02 r1 a full time track bike just because everything that i see is just taking the fun out of it. im just a little torn because i have been riding on the street for such a long time anyone opinion would be awesome thanks in advance :moped
Bogie 11-25-2007, 02:31 PM In your area I would definately consider going full time track with the occasional ride around town. :thumbup
Junior 11-25-2007, 02:31 PM I think that's a very wise idea.
gixxerfrank 11-25-2007, 02:34 PM i think so too, just makes me think of all the good times that friends and i have had riding around
fjorn 11-25-2007, 02:43 PM I switched from riding street on my '03 R1 to riding MX last fall. While I miss street riding some, I look forward to riding even more now. I know many people who have switched to either trackdays only or racing. From talking to them, they don't miss riding street all that much because of the idiots out on the road (cagers, squids, etc).
Bogie 11-25-2007, 02:45 PM I myself will start doing some trackdays next season but I don't think I could ever give up street riding completely.
I need that stress reliever at the end of a long day at work sometimes. Me, the bike and a country road is good therapy.
Then again we don't have the issues up here in Iowa you do down there. :thumbup
Snair 11-25-2007, 02:46 PM if you decide to ride just on the track it is very expensive
gixxerfrank 11-25-2007, 03:04 PM it wasn't always bad but motorcycles became cool again and everyone needed to have one at the shop i work at a kid dropped his bike off to get an oil change meanwhile he has a flat rear tire, bald front tire, metal to metal brake pads, no guages or fairings from several accidents and id say 90% of his front brake lever broken... its embarassing to be associated with some somone like that
fjorn 11-25-2007, 03:17 PM It's going to be like that to varying degrees with many other things unfortunately. I've across people like that in many hobbies/interests/competitions I've been involved in.
Best you can do is to try and enlighten people as best as you can. If they don't ride, be sure to explain to them the difference between responsible riders and irresponsible.
While not a very popular to some people, I've actually started turning in irresponsible motorcyclists as I see them blasting down the freeway or on one wheel in the middle of heavy traffic.

yeah i try lol i dunno i think some sharkskinz will be on order here real soon...the more i think about it the more it makes sense to me
You can make a lot of new friends at the track as well, I believe that is the best place to ride a bike these days.
It is easier to remove the squid element there, as usually most people are put in their own groups depending on riding abilities.

+1 met alot of nice people at the track
gsxcorey 11-27-2007, 08:07 PM hit the track and get a motard for the street. It's a different crowd and definitely fun on the street.

d3v1ls33 11-27-2007, 11:01 PM Hi,
This situation is similar in my country (Singapore), and riders here are stop by police for illegal mods and speeding (our speed limit is 90 in highway). This makes riders very wary on the road.
As a result, most class 2 (400cc and above) riders own a second bike for transportation. This makes life easier.....

Do they have tracks in Iowa or you riding round Field of Dreams??? :mock
I wanna do some track days, but I think I wanna buy a crap bike for that. I definitely need the practice, and training, but don't wanna trash the One in the process. She's my :baby

Funny fugger!! :kicknuts
I'll have to do some driving no matter where I go! :(
I'd like to pick up a used R6 or something for the track. :yes
riley42 11-30-2007, 04:10 AM I wish I still had my 05 R6 and I'd track that fugger out. My dealer has an 04 R6 that was turned into a street fighter. If I had the cash I'd buy that fugger right now. I'd have to put an R6 front back on it and it'd be pretty much good to go.
Bogie 11-30-2007, 04:12 AM Nice!! :thumbup
I just would hate to see my pride and joy go tumbling down the track!! :mad
riley42 11-30-2007, 04:15 AM Exactly why I don't wanna go on the One. Pluse I don't want all the 250's passing me.

Exactly!!! :lmao
riley42 11-30-2007, 04:31 AM Ya how do you live that down? I just can't go to the track and have a whole extra Gixxer 750 in my engine over a 250 and get passed by 250's. And I'd hate to see what the 600's 750's and 1000's would do. I got passed on the Dragon by a guy with a passenger and he beat me to the lookout by ten minutes.
fjorn 11-30-2007, 04:47 AM Ride your own speed, that's all anyone should ever be concerned with. Even :bogie does. ;)
When I was on the street, I considered myself a moderate rider. Faster than most, but not as fast as some. I never liked pushing myself past my limits too much, so I slowly improved my skills.

:mad:nono:rofl
riley42 11-30-2007, 05:00 AM I do ride my own speed. Only problem is I'll get blackflagged for it for being too slow. :fact
fjorn 11-30-2007, 05:05 AM Gotta start somewhere. I'm sure I'll be super slow compared to other class "C" racers next season.
Bogie 11-30-2007, 05:59 AM I always ride my pace! :old
gixxerfrank 11-30-2007, 06:33 AM My first ever track day i was passed by a very attractive woman on an RS250....i was on a GSX-R750 :mrgreen
