So, guess I'm home for the evening. I had just clocked out to go to lunch , went out to the car and headed out of the parking lot to come home and eat and get away for an hour. I remember traffic being bad, and I had to get out of the parking lot pretty quick , nothing " close call " or anything, but not some old granny drivin' either. Drove about 1/10 of a mile , look up and there is a line of like 10 cars stopped at a stop light. I never saw it in time.

I hit the brakes, it locked up , so I let off and pressed into them again, the damn thing locked up again and I'm still carrying at least 35mph and going to hit this Lincoln in the ass end with an old couple in there. I notice that there's nothing coming in the oncoming lane , so I swerve to the left, thinking I'll drive around to avoid killing them and or me, and didn't quite have enough room to pull it off.

My right front hit their left rear corner of the bumper, and there I went. Across the left lane, over a square curb that was REALLY loud when I hit that, and off an 8 foot drop off into one of the big ditches they have here for flood plain control. It's more like a huge ass pit, as in 12-15 acres big, that sits at least 8 ft. lower than the roads and acts as a catch-all for the local retail area water run-off.

I can remember being airborne and mowing down a shitton of cat tail looking weeds heading down that drop off and then landing in a ditch at the bottom of that.

Sore from my left shoulder to my right hip from the seat belt, and the ditch was full of water so wet from my knees down. Car is on the back of a wrecker heading across town and now I'm gonna go visit with my friend Jack Daniels and hit the shower.

So , when was your last wreck ?

Yea, they made out fine. I hit them at a glancing angle, all they ended up with was a paint smudge on the left corner of the rear bumper. Scared the man , he said they thought I had went off there and rolled because they could see the bottom of my car when I went over.

Honestly don't remember my last wreck, I try very hard not to remember those incidents, and just move ahead.

Glad you are ok Bro...... that sucks though but I guess it's better then hitting them direct. Good thinking on your part. Hopefully you'll get her fixed up soon.

Glad to hear you're okay, as well as the older couple. My last two accidents (three weeks apart) were caused by people not paying attention and rearending my car while I was sitting in gridlock on the interstate.

Glad you're OK Saint...

Had the same thing a couple of years ago...a moment of distraction, and all of a sudden nowhere to go...scary stuff.

Yes, glad your ok saint. My last wreck was in 1985 when i backed up into another mustang. I almost crashed the 1 when i was following my bud on the freeway trying to get over for an exit, everything was fine until he shut the door on me. I remember hearing the front tire squeal as i grabbed a handful of crg, was about to hit his left rear. This was on Thanksgiving day.

been awhile now, but I'll testify that flood control ditches really suck to go in to.

My last big wreck was in 93, coming down a twisty road in my old Toyota truck, I turned the wheel left but it didn't go left and I punched a boulder. Bent the frame, effectively totaling it. I wasn't hurt, just sore. I'm glad the rock was there.. I would have gone off a pretty big ledge into a canyon, about 200 feet below..All that and my wife was 4 months pregnant at the time.(she wasn't with me)

Saint, a friend of mine told me one day "every accident you walk away from, is a good thing" Glad to hear you made it out all in one piece and no severe injuries!! :thumbup

My only and last car wreck was back on christmas eve's (Dec 24th) in 2003.

I finished working at 5pm and wanted to be with my family on the day of xmas, my family is 500miles away so i came home, packed my stuff in the car, brought my little pet bird (cockatiel named Émile) and we left. After 5 hours of driving, i was following these trucks that put salt on the road because it was icy.. the thing doing like 30mph, it was about 1am by then (i stopped sleeping a few times along the road so being tired wasn't an issue). We were on a meeting road, no car coming, i passed it, everything was fine i was ready to go back in front of the truck as i hit an ice spot that made me loose control of my car and knowing myself i probably only thought "i need to stay on the road not to hit a tree, a ditch, a pole, etc." apparently i've been able to since an other car eventually arrived from the meeting lane and met me on my driver's side. They say i was talking to the towing guy, waiting for the ambulances as he was the first one to arrive there. I did suffer from hypotermia and cops had a hard time to stand up-so they say.

So since they couldn't fix me where it happened, i've been transfered 125 miles away to a bigger hospital, 17 days in coma (in which i spent my 19th birthday), total of 1 month in hospital and then been transfered to a rehabilitation center for 2 month (where i had a wheelchair with wheelie bars on it, had to be tied in it and tied to my bed since they were afraid i'd escape :rant ). Had to re-learn how to walk, write (being hit on left side of brain affects your right motorised side), only been able to drink water like 2 month after the accident, was only allowed to milk and thick juice, mashed food and stuff, PITA if you ask me :D

Dammages were: total lost of the car, smashed bird cage that was in the backseat behind me, broken pelvis on left side, broken colar bone on left side aswell, severe head trauma and while i was in coma, they shaved half of my head to install a garage drain to evacuate the blood and, finally, they've installed between both colar bone a ram air pipe since i wasn't apparently breathing right when in coma (like the pope had before he died). and after all that, i got down to 135pounds (i'm 5'10) cause i didn't liked hospital food so i wouldn't eat it.

Now? After re-doing my drive test to have my lisences back, i still drive manual, still ride a bike, still sing with Émile in the morning, more stubborn than ever, etc.

Émile is my bird yes, he wasn't in his cage (never is when i travel) but in a little traveler (which i call "his car") that is safer for him cause he can't get cought on a road bump or something and get stuck somewhere in his cage and hurt himself.

No trooper involved btw.

"Stubborn" would be a little more appropriate in my case ;)

My last big wreck was 7 years ago. It was sunny but very cold outside 0 degre celcius. I'm driving my mod 91 MR2 Turbo. I'm not totally waked up and didn't had my coffe. I went into a fast left corner that i knew very well, i actually used to get around it at 100mph sliding the rear all the way around. (i know i'm crazy (i was) i did the Bridgestone racing school, the Players racing school, F2000 races and many races). Whatever my tires were worn out and cold so i lost the rear end, i kept my foot on the gas because with a middle engine car if you lift your foot in that situation the weight is going to the front and things get worse. But my tires are like plastic and there no grip at all, so here i am leaving the tarmac going backwards at over 100mph!! Hiiiiiiiiihhhaaaaaa!!!! Into the ditch!!!

At some point everything stopped. I didn't flipped, and i didn't even break a nail.

Now here's the scary part. I got out of the car and i had absolutely no reaction, no feeling, i wasn't mad, wasn't nervous.... It felt like a normal crash at the racetrack.... i was like a racer who get out of his car and start looking for the spare car.......At the time i was such a racer in my head, as much on a car than on a bike, that crashing was normal for me. LMAO!!! Scary!! But i swear i'm not the same psycho today!! :lol:lol

Cool stories , thanks for sharing those and for the well wishes!

What type of bird is Émile? I've got a cockatiel named PJ. 90% of the time that I'm sitting in here, he's sitting on my shoulder. He climbs down off his cage, sidesteps across his desk and walks up my arm. If I put him back on his perch and / or ignore him, he whistles " Twisted Nerve " from Kill Bill and just keeps on getting louder and louder unti I finally crack and let him sit there on my shoulder or I take him and his portable perch into my daughter's room and close the door. :lmao

Nice Bird!

When I take PJ into my daughter's room , it's because she has two parakeets in a fly cage in there, they keep each other company ;)

Last(and only) wreck was at work last year, not at fault. Some guy pulled out from a stoplight and I t-boned him at 45mph in an ambulance. totalled his truck, and scratched the bumper on the new ambulance. He got a ticket, I got a day off work paid. No one got hurt, except the patient who was having a heart attack in the back (unrelated to the accident.)

My last accident was Jan 01 2004. A guy I was working with got really ill at work. I was driving him home, and he needed to puke. So , I pull over on the side of the road, and this idiot comes flying down the road and clips the side of my truck. my buddy goes flying into the ditch, breaks an arm and dislocates his shoulder. The douche that hit me, drunk, had his license revoke for impaired driving for 5 years, no insurance....
